As Escaflowne was out in the forests around Vesper, tending to the creatures that dwell within as he normally does, A Man in a hooded green robe came into his sight, trying to catch a glimpse of his face Esca could of sworn it was the Elf Pheonix, but this fellows eyes were glowing a feirce red, somewhat insanely looking. The hooded man chanted strange riddles as he passed Esca by in the forest, Escaflowne called out "Pheonix?", but there was no answer; it seems the man had been corrupted by some sort of dark magic.
