Chinas economy is so super heated right now that it won't sustain its massive growth that it has now. They're powered by the US consumers, and once they run out of cash to spend...China falls with them. Except with a billion pissed off people that want resources.

I think that if Britain wants to have its cake and eat it, it will need to start making major goodwill gestures to the EU as the majority of states want a centralized EU that HAS power. It's only a matter of time before tempers flare if the UK and Poland keep blocking every potential power centralizing legislation. Not to mention....where do your !!!!ing allegiances lie?! US or EU? Gotta make a stand at some point.

And if history has taught us anything, it's that europeans generally ermm...love wars. We've been licking our wounds and been sent on a MASSIVE guilt trip the last 60 years...but if we keep being reminded by others about how evil we were 60 years ago...then it will backfire, and we'll show the world what REAL rage is. *drools* Speaking from a european nationalist point of view ofcourse...it's been 60 years, get over it. I'd say the general population doesn't like the image of Blair sucking up to Bush, even though im sure Blair was exactly what Bush needed (a voice of reason).

Although, they dislike the idea of a centralised Europe even less! Brits hate foreigners, and the idea that we'll be controlled by the EU is probably why most of the country would vote us out of the EU if they had the chance!

We like Spain, but not the Spanish, France but not the French, and Italy but not Italians! The Germans we can tolerate...

But with more poorer countries being added into the EU, and more people from Poland etc coming to work in the UK. (Dont get me wrong, polish workers are amazing, work 10x as hard as Brits, and the Brits complain because they take their jobs, i like polish workers) But this is Britain, not Poland. Sure the wages u earn in the UK can get your family out of dire straights, but on a country-scale, its a slow way to gain economic independance!

So in answer to your question, if we could be the 8th Continent, we would.

As for me, im very pro-Europe. I think that all the issues that i hold dear are found in an EU community. Liberalism, strong trade, strong economies, non-religious government, and legalised marijuana!

Not just England. Bear in mind a great deal of British nukes are said to be based in Scotland, (and other parts of the nation in smaller numbers). We pull out and we've got your nukes, ner ner ner. We'd probably also cripple all of our economies, but hell. Either way England's time of global glory has passed remember, its the United Kingdom of Great Britain now

I'm another Brit who's very Pro-European though as well. But I don't think the current EU nations will be the ones to make it become one superpower. Eastern european countries poverty compared to western ones, and Turkey (come on, Turkey is barely classed as European because of that little corner of it where Istanbul is. The other 80% or whatever of the place is in the middle-east).

I think your right when you say that countries like France and whatnot are more likely to merge with others to form their own big state someday (and remain part of the EU with the intent of absorbing more when other folk see that it "works" if its done right). I'd love to see it happen personally, and I'd love for the UK to be one large part of it. Eventually my vision of it would be one giant state, with one main national language (preferably English, admittedly), one military machine and one foreign policy ready to stomp some balls on the world stage.

Not going to see that in our lifetimes though.
