*sighs* Nobody !!!!s with Russia....ever. It can't be done. Nobody can defeat the mighty bear! Except by using guerilla tactics like the Afghans did...but then, nobody can win a guerilla war in modern warfare unless all gloves are off. If the americans wanted to win in Iraq, they could in a few weeks, but only by using tactics that the rest of the world would find unacceptable. You'll note that despite Nazi Germany's massive land grab, they didn't really suffer all that much from guerilla warfare from partisans because they used brutal methods to quell such things. Burning entire villages etc etc etc. When Warsaw turned on the Nazis, the Nazis pretty much wiped Warsaw off the map, despite being in full retreat from Russia.

Russia is definitely utilizing the old classic "Sleeping Ivan" tactic....where it makes all outsiders THINK they're pretty much done for economically and militarily, and zen...when ze enemies are deep into Russias territory...they unleash their mighty wrath. Besides, Russia is just picking on lil' England to piss off the US indirectly. Still find it amusing that you actually think Putin will actually give a rats !!! what any single European country will do to Russia.

But the fact is, even though Russia is rebuilding its economy, it is just that. Rebuilding. They are an incredibly poor nation, with an outdated military and an incredibly corrupt legal & governmental system.

Russia may not care what a single European Country will do against them, but they would be worried about what the EU could do to them! Give it 10 years, and we'll be looking at most of the CIS states joining the EU, leaving ol'mother Russia standing alone without a single ally on the map.

The UK is flexing its muscles sure, its nice to see us actually being ballsy, and the Russians are standing behind their paperthin constitution which they only abide by when it suits them. Unforunatly, they wont give in, and the UK wont press because we dont want to cut diplomatic ties with the 3rd most powerful nation in the world!

The "sleeping ivan" isnt a tactic, its a reality. The US are being stupid with their Counter-Nuclear systems in the Czech Rep, because everyone knows that the only ICBM threat will be from Russia, because China wont shoot that way. Its sad to think that almost 20 years since the end of the cold war, America still fears the Mutually Assured Destruction plan!

p.s. I am pro-EU, but anti-Euro, and Pro-EDF (European Defence Force).

Give Europe a few years to sort out infighting, and tell some gov'ts to stop reaching for a European state, and we'll have an alliance that will control the world for a long time!

Yes, I'm sure Nazi Germany was thinking the exact same thing, along with Napoleon! Russia is always more powerful than it seems. Historical fact.

And yes, if the EU was rattling its saber (which is non-existant atm) then Russia might, MIGHT be paying more attention. I still doubt it though. Russians are crazy that way. And not to mention, when it comes down to it, the EU needs to stay on Russias good side due to their vast amounts of oil, remember the oil crisis last year?

And yes, if the EU stopped infighting and made a grand US like nation (in about 20 years time) no country on earth would be able to withstand us. We already have a bigger army than the US combined, already the biggest economic bloc in the world. That's why some are speculating that if the EU falls apart, France, Germany, and the Benelux countries will merge into a "super EU" with a joint army, economy, foreign policy. France and Germany already have several army divisions that are cooperating on a daily basis.

And agreed, the US is making so many historical mistakes that they can't sustain this. They have an absolutely enormous national debt, and what will happen when countries like China starts demanding repayment? Economic collapse. It's a huge bubble just waiting to burst at the moment. Some say that the Soviets were smart to pull out the cold war when they did, as their economy collapsed. Thankfully for them, at the time they would be able to rebuild their economy in a few decades which it is doing today. The US never stopped taking loans from countries. There was a great depression once, and it would be stupid to believe that history never repeats itself as it's been proven it has a tendency to do.

The EU wont collapse, everyone will be scared of a collapse, because Trade Groups like this do one main thing...Stop Wars! And the best thing the EU did was stop European wars!

For that one reason the UK will be in on anything Europe does! Britain is always on the winning side, and i dont think for one second that the events of the next 50 years will change that points. We will befriend China (like we already have), we'll be a major player in the EU through whatever corner it takes and we'll still be in that exclusive security council in whatever form the UN takes!

As for the americans...
100 Billion in global debt. 500 Billion of that to China.
A defence budget so large that they could educate Africa for 4 generations if they didnt pay that bill in 4 days!
Terrible health care for the poor people, 1/5 children are born into poverty in the states! An aging population that requires more state suplumency than any other country does.

The end of the American empire wont come through wars, oil or civil unrest...but through old people!

The next Government of America; Please o'Please make it a Democratic Gov't (Clinton or Obama), if not, make it Guilliani! Will find out that the USA no longer has the morale authority to direct the world. The Bush gov't did it by force, and a democratic wont, thus they will have to convince people that they are right. And then: "What about the Iraq war?" pops up!

Russia will never lead the world, corrupt ex-commies may have enough natural resources to hold the world random. But no one wants to listen...and they aren't there yet! Most likely the ex-KGB interim gov't will rebuild the economy, then restart the country wide-arms factory, and continue on a free spiral that goes two ways....
1) Government control, leading to the same situation the cold war left them in.
or
2) Capitalist freedom...which means, nukes in Iran, N.Korea, Syria.

China economically are on their way, but they are still a communist nation. When that changes, and they change their aggressive stance towards Taiwan. Then maybe, just maybe.
