Re: Amel Mastema's journal

*this entry is written with apparent ease, the script is growing slightly more sophisticated for each entry. references are made using unfamiliar numerals in between the paragraphs to separate pages containing the sketches*

I had one last trip with my dear "wife" to Trinsic, there was lots to see and take, however our mission kept us focused. Immediately upon arrival we saw a small group which included a few Shadow Court members and Lady Vierna. They were in the middle of a friendly dispute regarding a deity of some sort as we passed by.

We easily maneuvered to the jail where my "wife" proceeded casually and with great ease to question the prime target. I was talking to someone outside the prison and when I turned around they were engaged in conversation.

The target seemed very apathetic from what I could gather, but I only caught glimpses as I watched in the doorway for potential trouble. Suddenly I saw the guards escort the prime target outside the walls. I saw them halfway between the west bridge and first river before the moongate. Perhaps they just wanted privacy ? Now I couldn't allow them that privilege. I doubt they would see me behind the trees..

I learned nothing new from their questioning, quite pointless to follow in the first place. As I watched a lantern behind me blazed aflame, I was shocked to see a familiar face manifesting in the flame explosion delivering an urgent message : Get out! Obviously the others did not see it, or could not.

As I fled slowly not to raise any alarm I caught a fragment from a conversation. I learned someone had been apprehended, I had a sneaking suspicion of who might be the unfortunate one. I know she will not expose her true allegiance, fortunately I will end up in such a peril. Upon returning to Marble Island I received another message to stay away from Trinsic until further notice. I promptly decided to do some training and reading and settled for the evening.

The next day I went to a scheduled family meeting. Jade began as usual immediately with the agenda. There was some discussion about an unfamiliar warrant in Mistress Jades name recently posted around Trinsic. The Duchy apparently wanted her for several reasons which for now were clouded to us, but we did not fail to see the motives behind them. The council reached a decision regarding appropriate actions. We were to learn of the charges and make proper arrangements off-base. I will keep the details shrouded. The one thing I will mention is that we need to raise funds, however I doubt that will be any large issue with our magnitude of resources.

Myself and one of the senior family members were taken to a smaller room on the first floor where Mistress Jade gave us specific instructions. They were very much in line with the previous missions, however I shall keep them shrouded until they are in irreversible motion.

The senior member and I investigated the cold valley of the shadow court once again upon the mistress' request. We had no such fortune with us, we discovered no clues, nor living creatures for that matter.

When I returned to the island I saw even more plans manifesting before my eyes. We had received visitors. I was called to serve the esteemed guest something to drink. The person had disguised himself but the persons reputation preceded it and I was honored to serve. A good choice of drink our guest had.

We waited outside patiently as the meeting transpired. Sister Gwen arrived and burst through the doors of the great hall heading for the meeting. We saw the bodyguard of our guest run after her. Apparently nothing happened because of this.

It was all going very well and it was a pleasure to see the pieces fit together. Even another town seems to be intertwined in this already crowded web. Most intriguing...

I had returned to the chapel calming myself with a few sedating herbs combined with abstract painting which continued for hours. The cellars was a natural choice as the atmosphere always compliments my vision manifesting on the canvas. Unexpectedly I heard marching above next to the west wall of the chapel. There were no doubt these were soldiers. I left everything and headed for the secret section and hid for a small moment unsure where they were headed. As the firm steps faded completely I resurfaced, found a monks robe, and set out to discover the identity of my visitors.

A helpful and observant local revealed it was one from the Duchy and six of the Skara Brae accompanied by a mercenary and two paladins. Since I would not enter Trinsic I tried to spy from outside the walls. This seemed futile for a small while. There was a red carpet unfolded at the west gate and I remained too curious as to who this was entitled. Two mysterious figures stood at approximately the same distance as me from the gate. I asked them what the red carpet was for, they did not know.

Offering three hundred gold for that information was all that was needed to progress, they revealed it was the Skara Brae who was expected. I nodded to myself, rewarded them and headed for Marble Island.

When I arrived at the great hall I was quite surprised to see mistress Jade and a family member settling with my very curiosity at her grand table. The soldiers from Skara Brae. She explained they had traveled far. Just following their recent trail I was inclined to nod in agreement.

Amazed I slightly hesitated as Jade requested I gather some drinks for the guests. I chose something brewed locally, a strong beverage. They were quite grateful for the wine, and had well equipped manners when it came to drinking at such an occasion. I would reveal much more, however some details must remain shrouded even here. There was conversation going for an hour without stop, it seemed to settle a great deal of confusion as well answer a few questions. Naeloth was mentioned and I learned a few things about this ancient place myself, very intriguing.

I left slightly before the other guests and proceeded with some previous engagements.

Once again it was time to meet at he Umbra tavern and discuss matters of grave importance. This time I would represent the house by myself, a great honor indeed. Lady Vierna was at the table as well as other drows coming and going as we prepared, among others a peculiar priestess. They often spoke with what seemed to be their native tongue, rather confusing and insulting to those that did not. Other then that there was an anonymous person who I can only believe to be a mercenary or brigand so far.

Another piece of Jade's favorite book series seem to have been discovered. After a few preparations we were on our way. It would surface in Destard the Shadow had claimed, he did not lie last time. He revealed the word which would force the spirit to reveal itself and the book with it. I am still not certain as to why these books are so important, alas if we discover one the question might answer itself. As last time there were other excavation groups, one of them had the duchy's support including Kaelyn and Gwen from the Trinsic Rose which I recognized later. I could only assume their teams were larger than ours hence the previous search they were outnumbering us hopelessly.

Assembled outside Destard we descended into the abyss of darkness and lurking fire. I had not been there before, there were no occasions for questions so I had prepared like I would for any dungeon venture. The anonymous one had gone inside prior to our arrival and I did not see him until much later.

The drows did not hesitate to enter either and seemed familiar with their new dark surroundings. Immediately to my surprise a dragon slowly began walking towards us and eventually assaulted. Doing some damage it fell after a minutes struggle. The obvious advantage of our combined specialties proved quite effective. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the dragon did not have poison immunity.

There were other reptilian giants there, wyverns and enormous snakes. As we quickly moved onwards we were forced to venture a few levels down. In this procedure we met with the duchy's team which had much the same experience as us. Indeed, their numbers were great. Regardless, I do not remember which floor it was, but it would prove we would not go further. A titanic ancient wyvern was guarding the cave here. To my great pleasure we managed to subdue it after it seriously wounded several of both groups. I remember seeing Gwen from the Trinsic Rose there generously helping the wounded as many others.

After this victory I heard someone say with a low voice that the book had been found by a third party. The drows and I left and met up outside. I detoured slightly on the way to keep an eye on the Duchy's party and they did indeed seem not to have the book. I lost track of them and met up with the others. We were there a while considering what action to commit while one of the drows kept an eye on our prime suspects. No clue at all about the book itself. The third party were not to be found and we were left with no other option than to retire.

The priestess opened a portal to Malas where we gathered in what seemed to be Vierna's grand chamber. Exquisite design and innovating taste these creatures have. I must admit there were some morbid scenes. As far as I was concerned they were a result of effective intimidation, or lack of concern removing recently deceased humanoid from the middle of your complex. However, they did call it a crypt, and I were in Malas I reminded myself and entered curious of it's contents.

We sat and discussed matters for a while. Suggestions were very creative, all from killing the bookfinder to trying to steal it. The details seem not so important due to the conclusion of the meeting. The anonymous one wanted to take a more discreet measure to ensure us the contents of the book. He offered to work together. There was some confusion and in the end it was decided that we will all work separately for now. I managed to look around briefly after I left the meting. Very strange place, however some of the tombs are magnificent I am forced to admit.

As I returned home I immediately took measures to ensure hasty healing of my damaged body, still I slept uneasy.

It appears we are still not even closer to finding the book we wanted and all traces of it seems to have disappeared. Perhaps if I spoke more with the drows I could discover something. I tried to listen in on a few conversations at the Trinsic Rose a busy evening, none of them included it. I was handed a post by Morgan Le Fey I believe offering quite an amazing assortment of services and merchandise. I shall keep this poster for now, perhaps it may come in use.

Alas I shall have to wait for now, perhaps some clues will turn up later. I have been very busy practicing my new beloved arts and I am getting closer to making them very useful indeed, soon they will be a necessity.

Quote:
I woke up very late this day, it was already dark. I felt an unease as I proceeded with my daily chores. My awakening ritual never ceases to bring me to a peak condition, yet this time, something was lacking. My agenda felt not so important anymore as I continued through the chapel corridors unconsciously packing for a small trip. As I passed my mirror it struck me. A bond I had with mistress Jade, inheriting a good sense of her position which became clearer day by day. However, as of that moment I felt quite alarmed. My Sire was in Trinsic!

This revelation puzzled me but I did not stand still as I watched my instincts break in as I made the final preparations and traveled to Marble Island. In my opinion it would guarantee she in imminent danger.

I arrived at the inn of Marble Island where Sir Jaston was having a drink alone it appeared. I did not hesitate in demanding his attention and he was curious of my intentions. Revealing what I sensed I saw his reaction as similar of my own. We quickly agreed to investigate and headed for Trinsic with great haste. Prior to this I had searched the island for any other family members, they were all preoccupied or missing.

While we traveled I decided to pose as a art merchant arriving from Jhelom called Karl. Sir Jason did a marvelous job at convincing the locals I was a complete stranger out on a tourist tour. As we came closer to the jail I felt my Sire's presence growing closer. There were no guards at the door so we proceeded inside where I saw the strangest sight.

Apparently there was a poisoned tongue civilian man located by the desk which was quite rude and inconsiderate of the city's newest "visitor". He demanded we'd leave, of course we ignored him as best we could. Then there was another completely different creature which claimed she was Kendra! I was appalled to see how much she had changed. She had some sort of horns, and miniature wings, all a very radiant demonic aura attached.

I spoke with her for a while trying to divert her attention so I could perhaps steal her key or.. even better get her to leave. For some sort of a demon, she was not easily provoked. I saw the misguided man at the desk as a possible hostage. I could only imagine if Kendra, now being some sort of a demon, could not care less if I slit the ill mannered civilians throat. She was probably as sick of him as I was. After a while we left and continued on my "tour" to the Trinsic Rose where we dropped the act and I managed to thank the hostess Gwen about her timely assistance in Destard. We stayed politely for a drink as there was not much we could do alone. I suddenly wished that our family's Gwen had come along and created a diversion she so effortlessly can demand. This was aggravating, sitting at the bar being able to do nothing for now. Considering our family's reputation we could risk us as well being caught, for now. We decided to leave.

I and Sir Jaston separated at the west bridge where I headed home furious of the current situation. I am sorry to say some lost lumberjack in the woods absorbed most of the aggression, I doubt he is recognizable any more. I was too provoked to think clearly, I returned to the chapel close by Trinsic and would consider my plans more carefully. Once again the blood in my veins demanded retribution, my heart was being tainted by each encouraging pulse. Next time I will not come this unprepared...
