Question Troubleshooting Digital Camera

I have a Nikon Coolpix 5600. My mother recently borrowed it, and now its broke. It seems to freeze after taking just one picture. Sometimes the screen turns blue. Sometimes I can still see threw the screen but when I try to take the picture nothing happens. I have to take the batteries out and put them back in, rinse wash and repeat. My mom swears she didn't drop it and i'm not sure why it would be acting crazy all of a sudden. Anyone have any ideas? I don't have a warranty Maybe it can be reset somehow?

Someone perform some magic and fix it!

Re: Troubleshooting Digital Camera

Hmmmm, wish I could help with this one, but I've never had trouble shooting anything. I normally aim center mass, pay attention to my trigger squeeze, and breath normally. Maybe your sights are off on your gun.

j/k

Not sure how much help I could be, but some really basic things here:

Are the batteries new?

Can you view old pics without a problem?

Have you tried a different memory chip (if it has one)?

Do you have an owners manual?

Do any of the newer pics you take come out? (and are in good condition)

Thanks again Maddux!

You're such a Macho Man

Not sure how much help I could be, but some really basic things here:

Are the batteries new? Yes, she put in a set of new Duracell Ultra Digital batteries. Upon further inspection I see a tiny crack on the battery door. However... there is still power to the camera at all times. I just doesn't take pictures. Evidence that the camera has been dropped! I also took out those Ultra batteries and replaced with new normal ones, same deal.

Can you view old pics without a problem? Yes, unless I take a picture and then the camera freezes. You can see threw the screen, move the camera, and the screen moves with you as it should, however the menu button, scroll buttons etc do not work.

Have you tried a different memory chip (if it has one)? Not yet!

Do you have an owners manual? Yes, it has a small troubleshooting guide, nothing in it for this.

Do any of the newer pics you take come out? (and are in good condition) Yes, all the pictures I had taken by "rinse, wash, repeat" transferred fine. One of baby wrinkles came out blurry though.

Thanks Ad, I submited a question. I hope they don't tell me to send it in to be reaired. I found one review of the camera and the man said his camera did the exact same thing after two months. They wouldn't honor his warranty and charged him $203 dollars, and the camera was only $239.

I can't even register my camera because I dont' have the original reciept! Boogers!

Re: Troubleshooting Digital Camera

Looks bad.

I'd chalk it up to a 5-7 ft. drop and personally I'd take the risk of tearing it apart just to see what else is cracked/damaged (not to mention I like to disect tons of things just to see how they work, even if it's digital).

Never torn apart a camera (mental note: "borrow" brother's camera) so I don't know what the guts consist of, but I have a similar problem with a stereo, where the brains got damaged so only half of it works, but the half that works, works perfectly fine. I would assume that the part of your camera's brain that has to make the transition from pic1 to pic2 got damaged.

Odds are there is something inside that got rattled and your looking at a $203 bill to send to your mother.
