Question Re-naming Music files

Does anyone know how to properly rename a music file? I had some music on my computer that had funky names, so I renamed them correctly, sometimes I would just right click and rename, some I would right click properties & change the name & title there. It still transfers onto the MP3 player funky. Is there a special way to get in the file & name the Artitst, Title & Album?

Re: Re-naming Music files

An mp3 has a file name and an mp3 tag. The tag has all the info that shows up on the players. What you are doing is just renaming the file. You can name it anything you want but the mp3 will still show the mp3 tag. you want a program like Tag & Rename. It actually changes the mp3 tag. Give me a sec and I will find one of the freebies I used to use, they are actually pretty good for free. (once you buy Tag & Rename you will never go back!)

~Edit~
Well I actually forgot the hard drive meltdown I had a few months ago...a lot of my misc. stuff didn't survive. So I don't remember which freebies I used. http://www.softpedia.com/catList/66,1,1,1.html Here is a link with some various programs that will do the trick for you. Some are freeware, some shareware. I used the freeware for a long time until I finally decided I needed the full power of Tag & Rename ($30).

I wish I could recommend a particular free program but I'm not all that familiar with them....some of them listed as freeware are really crippleware. Read the reviews if they have one.

http://www.snapfiles.com/get/audioshell.html Actually this one looks very promising. I may try it out just to see how it works out. It is made by the Tag & Rename folks.

Re: Re-naming Music files

I just downloaded and played with audioshell. It is a very slick windows explorer add-on. You simply open the properties and can change the mp3 tag. Very easy to use. I like it already.
