WOW battlegroup?

Ok I know this is probably a very newbish question but when I look up my char it shows im in BG Whirlwind? Is BG preassigned? or is it based on lvl? I have no clue how to even get in a BG or arena?

The BG is preassigned by server. There's a certain number of servers per battlegroup.

I suppose this is a method of trying to balance the load in the battlegrounds when you play with other's across servers.

In case you were unaware of it, when you play in battlegrounds such as Warsong Gulch, you play with EVERYONE in that battle group, and with others from Blackwater Raiders and different servers that are within the same rank as you. The first rankings for Warsong are players lvl 10 - 19 in a chaotic game of capture the flag.

probably an equally newbish question but should I start doing them as soon as I'm able in order to learn the ropes or wait as a friend of mine does til she's about to lvl out. for instance she enters when she is lvl 19, 29, 39 etc?

That's exactly what I am going to start doing. I tried it out at lvl 26 and became addicted. Granted I was still doing a lot of damage with my pet, but I am missing out on lvling lol. I got a lot of medals though on my Horde char. She has a trinket, cape, sword, and necklace from playing. Saved me A LOT of money though.
