Ok, please keep suggestions for future spotlight on threads coming in this thread (linky linky loo hars).

Our first spotlight on feature will be the final fantasy series. Why the series? Because it seems that when folk discuss final fantasy they refer to all different final fantasys and which was thier favourite one etc.

For those that have never played a final fantasy game, they are RPG set in many different worlds, with different characters every time. They have been released on many consoles, from game boys, snes's, playstations and gamecubes. They have everything from magic, swords, big guns, space travel (yarr Cid!! ) and big talking dogs (anyone here not like nanaki?).

For those that do know, feel free to post anything final fantasy here, be it a rundown of the story from each game, your favourite music track, tips, cheats and walkthroughs. IF your posting anything that has a spoiler in please head the top of your post with the copied / pasted line:

Remember not everyone here has played a final fantasy game yet, and some may wish to do so. Now, enough of me talking, *hops into the rafters above the stage, pulls round the spotlight and aims it square (no pun intended) at...*

Ok, final fantasys from best to worst:

Now you will notice I left out parts 1-6 and also the Gamecube ones.
Since I have not played them or was too young to appreciate them when I played them.

Now why Tactics?
Oh SO many reasons, its just a kick ass game with THE BEST STORYLINE EVER IN A GAME. The battles take upwards of an hour to beat, the main characters are awesome and its a bit of a more mature theme than the other FF series.

Was the first game I ever played for Playstation, it was the one game that hooked me on RPGs, and thus onto UO.
It has a great storyline(almost as good as Tactics), spans 3 discs, great graphics(for its time) and 100s of mini games/subquests. And did I mention it takes around 50 hours to beat if you play threw it normally not rushing?
The record I have seen for the fastest FF7 game played from beginning to end was 24 hours and 39 minutes. Thats skipping everything(not reading txt or watching the movies ect).
Fastest I have done it was 36 hours.
I have played FF7 threw about 8 or 9 times and about half way threw a dozen times.

Awesome battle system, pretty good storyline, great characters. Kinda crapped out at the end unfortunitly, but still a very good game.

Very good Story, very good end, very good game overall. Why did it make it this low on the list? The stupid dubbing. It was soooooo terrible. That and the sphere system wasn't top notch.

It was much too cartoony for my liking. Was a very good storyline except it got a little weird towards the end.
I also felt sorry for Vivi when he discovered the blackmage village. That was so sad....

Oh God I hated this game SOOOOOOO much. Nothing but an attempt to make more money from a previous game. I really wanted to finish the story on that one. But I could keep with the battle system and the terrible sub storylines.

1-6? I played 1 on the NES when I was like 8, I wasn't mature enough to enjoy it.
I think maybe thats what I will do download 1-6 this weekend and play it when I get bored of UO and WoW(10 day free trial don't worry people lol).

I am looking forward to FF12(coming out this Fall for the PS2) and FF13(coming out for the PS3).

Also thinking about looking into FF7irge of Cerberus
Its a spin off of Vincent from FF7, might be ok.

Played 1 & 2 on gameboy. Played one on the snes (cant remember which was long time ago) then went on to 7 on PS. I realy liked 7. Wasnt to keen on 8. I think id like 9, looks kinda silly, i like sily games

Also got crystal chonicles on gamecube. Love it as a hack and slash, but its kinda multiplayerd and bashy monsters stylie. Good game but not like the normal story line based games.

Stopped paying attention to the FF series after 7. Although I can see myself backtracking and playing all the FF series when I retire and have nothing better to do.

Oh hey did anyone manage to kill all the weapons in FF7? God damn that was hard! I remember having every character at top level (cant remember what it was ) when i did it hehe

Let me back track on my stint with the FF series...

Played 2 + 3, then Mystic Quest, then parts of 7, then 5 and 6 but didn't finish either.

Plan on trying out Tactics just 'cause I always hear good things about it, is it only or PS, if so anyone know of a good emulator?

Ack that scene in 7 when nanaki saw his dad.... Eessh what were they trying to do? It actually made me feel sad for him! For a fantasy character in PS! graphics, and i felt sad for him! How lame is that?!?!

Its ok LyLas I even shed a tear for Nanaki, that poor doggie thingy.

Anyways, I guess I made the questions a bit too vague.

So whats the PS2 ones about? They looks less cartoony than previous ones. Good storys? Plot keep up? What were they like to play?

Well so far it has just been 10 and 10-2 for the PS2, 12 is coming out in the fall just before the PS3 launches.

10-Was a good storyline, the story revoled around Titus and a monster named Syn. Titus was from the past and he comes to the furture and finds his world destroyed. And the current world is under siege by Syn, Summoners are the other focus of the game, the summoners travel to the city of Zankirin(sp) which is titus' home town to defeat syn.

Was a decent story, wasn't as good as some of the others. But I must say the only reason this kinda didn't do so well is because of the Dubbing. A LOT of people disliked the fact that they used voice actors and dubbed it, contrary to the previous FFs which were 100% text and no voices.

10-2....well I can't even really start into the summary of that without ruining then end of 10.
