Well, I do not know either, but...since you seem interested, you are probably thinking [Page 2] of taking on the life of a mage. "How hard could it be?" you ask yourself. Well, my little friend, I am going to answer that question for you! [Page 3] First off, to become a successful mage, you must be rich. When I was a youth, I was bent on becoming a Grandmaster mage, the best of the best. [Page 4] I went out and bought the rest of the First Circle spells for my book. Those were too easy for me, so I began Second Circle. I bought some scrolls from shops, and I was [Page 5] pleased to find that quite a few people had some Second Circle scrolls they could spare. I used up all my money to buy the reagents, and then I moved on the Third [Page 6] Circle. "It's so easy," I would think to myself. Then I began slowing down once I hit the Sixth Circle. I would cast Sixth Circle spells, but my skill in the magical arts would not improve. [Page 7] I had already spent between ten and twenty thousand gold on reagents and scrolls thus far. It was getting harder and harder to find the scrolls needed to complete the next Circle, and the [Page 8] prices were extremely high. However, I toiled through the Sixth Circle, spending another four thousand gold in the process. I happily moved on to Seventh Circle, and that is when things got [Page 9] sticky. I had almost progressed to Eighth, but I was going very... slowly... on the Seventh Circle. Many thousands of gold pieces later, and many, many, many hours spent summoning [Page 10] monsters, I became a Grandmaster mage, my dream. I sometimes would think about the castle I could have had... But enough of that! I cannot dwell on what could have been. [Page 11] I am glad that I have finally received the title I dreamed about my entire life. As I am writing this, a fellow walks up the steps. He is a Scoundrel. He looks at me, at my [Page 12] wizard’s cap, and robe. He walks over. I eye him warily. He squats down next to me and pulls something from his pack. It takes me a moment to Realize what it is, but by then, it is too late. [Page 13] He has started a fire, right next to me. I suddenly get the urge to camp, and in doing so, I lose my Grandmaster status as a mage, only to improve a bit in Camping. [Page 14] I will be back to my original glory in about a year or two, I hope. [Page 15] {Note- Once upon a time a person could raise their skill by watching someone else. There was no way to control if you could or could not gain in a skill. Often just walking by someone using a skill [Page 16] such as camping would cause a gain!} |
