I finally figured out how NPCs raise the prices on commodities such as ingots, arrows, boards, etc... but I wonder if anyone knows how and when the prices subside again. It's been a whole day and the prices are still up where I left them. When will they go down? And how... will they go down one gp at a time or reset all at once to a lower price?

as far as I know, the vendors will only reset when they are replaced.

EAMythic made changes recently to vendors because there was an exploit where you could make unlimited amounts of gold.

never really got into buying/selling in bulk to vendors, rather just bash monsters or pvp. So the only way to check would be to go sell a large amount and see the change. but I think they are going to be like for quite sometime.

You would seem to be right :[ No change so far. Seems odd though, since that would really drive prices way the hell up after a while, or do they fairly often replace vendors? Do they sometimes replace them all or some, like with a large new publish?

Usually with every major publish the npc vendors have been changed.

I would guess with this new publish today (march 27, 2008) we might see vendors reset. This usually means "new" npc vendors, if you actually notice the names of the vendors, they get replaced by new vendors.

Since they've fixed the NPC vendor exploit, can you describe it in general terms? I've in the past made a small (~100K) amount by recalling around between leather/hide vendors after publishes, but I never heard of an exploit...

I'm just too honest when I play this game, apparently.

not really, I knew about it, was explained to me sometime ago, never did it, because buying and selling from a vendor is not my idea of fun.

I would rather bash monsters or pvp. having a good time is most important to me. I am trying to get a hold of another player that I know that they used the exploit. Trying to see if it has really been fixed or not, I know this person will know. For some reason, he enjoys finding exploits, he finds "joy in the stupidity of programmers" as he likes to put it. Why he even plays I have no clue, because everytime I do talk with him. he does nothing but complain about UO. I know he is not banned yet, his house is not owned by osi, nor is it burned down, but his vendors are down. i get back to you with an answer in a few days.

This publish probably won't re-set vendors, since there's no change to them in it.

I suggest you seek out the vendors that spawn afresh a couple of times per day.

I've never researched it to find out exactly how often it happens though. Seek out the travelling gypsies in Ilshenar. Each time they move the prices reset. I think there are 10 locations of which 3 or 4 will be occupied at any one time. My figures may be slightly out, as I said, I've never properly researched it.
