Returning very rusty vet needs some advice
Greetings all
I’ve recently return to UO armed with the 9th anniversary to upgrade my account with after being away since 2003. Up until then I played UO pretty much none stop since its launch in 1997. Like many of you I’ve been around all the other MMO’s and now I’ve come full Circle hence the name. I just had to come back with Kingdom reborn on the way. To say I’m a bit rusty is an understatement. I’ve been reading these forums and seen how helpful and inviting the community is here so I thought this is the prefect place to scrub this rust off and relearn the Uo of today. I’ve got 3 main adventure characters with templates how I left them in 2003. I’d still like to play these character mainly in the style they are now but I need some advice templates that best work for today’s UO for PVM. The characters I need advice with their templates are as follows. My Mage Wrestling = 100 GM Inscription = 100 GM Evaluating Intelligence =100 Gm Magery = 100 GM +10 power scroll been added Meditation = 100 GM Resisting Spells = 60 still training Spirit Speak = 93 still training My Swordsmen. Anatomy = 100 Focus = 70 Healing = 94 still training to GM Swordsmen = 100 GM Tactics = 100 GM Lumberjacking = 100 GM Resisting Spells = 40 Magery = 20 Hiding = 100 GM My Archery/Fencer Anatomy = 100 has a power scroll to 105 Archery = 100 has power scroll to 110 Fencing = 110 Healing = 91 training to 100 Tactics = 110 Magery = 40 Resisting Spells = 60 Hiding = 100 On my swordsmen and Archery/Fencer I know I want to keep the 100 hiding for sure as they prove invaluable to me. I’ve also heard lumberjacking doesn’t give that great a bonus anymore since it’s now 30% of your base damage. So I’m planning on getting my hands on a soulstone fragment to transfer my lumberjacking to my crafting character. I would be most grateful and open to suggestions and how to best adjust these characters. Thanks a lot in advance! |

Re: Returning very rusty vet needs some advice
Well, your mage looks pretty good, but for PVM, you can pretty much scrap resist, as it really doesn't do much. It think it used to give you a chance to resist all spells, but now it only gives you a chance to resist stat-lowering spells (curse, feeblemind, stuff like that).
Here's what I'm running right now: Magery: 110 Med: 115 Inscription: 100 Eval: 110 Spellweaving: 100 Fishing: 71.2 (working up to 100) rest of the points in whatever, I haven't decided yet. It really depends on what type of template you want to play. You could always work up Poisoning so you can cast deadly poison fields. Spellweaving is a pretty good skill to have - it doesn't use regs, BUT the spells have a high mana cost, so if you do take up spellweaving, make sure you've got a good suit with lrc (for magery) and mana regen, plus get med as high as you can afford to scroll. You could also drop wrestling, resist, and spirit speak, and take up taming, lore, and vet. I have another character running as a mage/tamer that does really well in pvm, though I don't really use magery much with her except for your basic invis, cure, healing, rezzing other players, etc. But the mage heals in addition to the vet heals allow me to keep two pets alive against some pretty rough stuff. I don't do much with warrior classes anymore, but your best best would be to stone off Lumberjacking and maybe put chivalry on there. I've heard healing doesn't really matter all that much above 90 or so, so you could just lock the skill there and put the points into something else. If you're using a shield, you might want to put some points in parry, or you could do bushido and ninjitsu instead of chiv and parry. On the archer/fencer...there's really not too much of a point in putting 2 melee skills on a character, as you have to sacrifice a lot of skill points to divide between those two skills. That extra 100 points could be put into something like chivalry, necro, or bushido to make an awesome warrior. Chiv archers do really well in pvm, and I've heard necro and bushido archers do really well in pvp (I haven't really figured out to use either of those templates yet so they didn't work for me, but other people love them!). Hope this helps! Kylana |

Re: Returning very rusty vet needs some advice
Quick Hits:
Mage - Drop Spirit Speak, pick up SpellWeaving and raise Eval Int. Resist Spells is still viable depending on how lazy you are. (items can do what the skill does if you want to keep them on stock and carry/use them when needed) Swordsman - Drop Focus, lower Healing to 90, Raise Swords, drop Magery (if you stay Human you ave 20 to all skills anyway), move LJ (good to have, on crafter/mule) pick up Parry & Chivalry (70-80 is enough). Raise Resist Spells (unless you plan on using items). Archer/Fencer - Drop Healing to 90, drop Magery, raise Resist Spells (unless you plan on using items). (2 fighting skills is tough to toss around and still be powerful, but it makes for interesting gameplay and could be used for RP purposes)

Re: Returning very rusty vet needs some advice
Thx a lot of the replies so far I can more a less start planning my characters. Now it's just a case of who to work on first and grind some gold so I can hopefully find a stonestone fragment.

Re: Returning very rusty vet needs some advice
Thanks for the welcome back replies
I forget to mention I play on the Europa shard since I live in the UK. I just built a house on the west side of wrong in trammel. Now I'm trying to remember the good hunting spots to grind up 500k in gold so I can buy a soul stone fragment token. What's the going rate for soulstone fragment token anyway just to be sure? |

Re: Returning very rusty vet needs some advice
Don't know if you have any vet rewards (not sure how that works with returning players) but a new 1st year reward is a FULL soulstone.

Re: Returning very rusty vet needs some advice
When I had the option for the first year rewards they weren't one of the options yet. Thanks for letting me know they’re now in the vet reward list. I know what I'll be picking when I can pick my next vet reward. In the meantime I'll just buy one of those soul fragments for now so I can get working on my templates. I’m only 100k out from affording one. I’ll be broke for a short time but I’ll save up the gold again.

Re: Returning very rusty vet needs some advice
![]() Not sure if you know, but those fragments have 5 uses and then they're done. BUT if you just wanted to use one to dump skills (i.e. Focus) that does not burn a charge.
