Returning player, Round 2.
Ahhh, in one week I learned so much. I have relived the hellish corpse runs, and finally completed my LRC suit. I've gotten completely obliterated by caster type creatures that seem to "double cast", and have been chopped to peices in 2 hits by elite ninjas and such. So heres another round of questions...
1) My tamer currently has 8 used skills, I need to drop one. I currently have -Evaluating intelligence -Animal Taming -Animal lore -Magery -Veterinary -Meditation -Resist spells -Focus Which shall I drop? Focus is completely new, which threw off my old build.. but it sounds good on paper. 2) Around how much money will lose from the following house building steps! -Build villa -"customize" I am currently on customize and don't want to drop too much cash, what are the penalties of deleting the house you placed in order to customize it? 3) What exactly are these "Dragon bard deeds" everyone is selling? Please tell me it doesnt mean I need one in order to provoke dragons on my bard.. (ug) 4) My tamer is...well bluntly put... rediculously weak. I have been 2 shotted more times than I can remember. Lost 3 mares. Until I can control my whyte wyrms again, this looks like my fate. (damn that change! Me and snow had so much fun 2 years ago =[) It seems a bit insane though to be so easily slaughtered, even coming back after all those years. I am talking mainly caster types, melee are easy enough to escape from. I attempted to tame a rune beetle, only to be wtfpwnt by that rune beetle in .0005 seconds. Is there a certain tactic to going against magery loving mobs? I also met a dragon that killed me at 80% health with a single breath attack. I have 101 str right now... I am not sure how much more it can improve hpwise 5) Final question, there are so many "quests" in this game now, when I played.. there were absolutely none. It sounds like this game has incorperated a boss system even, with quest objectives to gain access to his lair and kill him. At my current state, I would get laughed out of the groups that do this. What solo quests do you suggest in order to improve my character a bit? I am focusing on my tamer for now, just so I have something to farm with. Unless my warrior would be a better bet. his gear is also 5 years old though! |

Re: Returning player, Round 2.
I play a tamer, and right now I can say drop focus. Wear a leather suit you can med in, and use a pet as a meat shield, and you will be fine.
1. Get power scrolls and raise taming, lore, and vet high. The higher they go, the more stable slots you have. Evel is another one, and magery fizzles on 8th level spells at GM level skill. My template is tame, lore, vet, magery, eval, med, and whatever is left over I stuck into resist until I can get all 120 scrolls lol. 2. When you have a classic house, you have the option to change it into a customizable plot. You can then go under the customize menu, and build your house. When you are done, click to finalize it, and it will tell you how much it will cost to do so. If you want to wait, or don't have the gold, you can backup your plan and do it later when you have more money. 3. Dragon barding deeds are for swamp dragons. They are basically armor for the ugly little critters. You do not have to have them at all unless you want them. 4. Raise your taming skill. The higher it is, the better chance you have. Some critters can't be tamed at all unless you have over GM taming and lore. Losing pets? BOND THEM! Feed them once, then stable them for a week. Take them back out and feed them again. That will bond them, so if they die, you can rez them with vet. 5. There are quests all over the place. You could go and become an elf... some critters like the cu can only be tamed by elves. A lot of quest givers are small parts of a larger quest. http://uostuff.com/ow.asp?MondainsLegacyWiki is a good place for some info about quests, new pets, dungeon guides, etc.

Re: Returning player, Round 2.
Welcome back to UO.
Drop Focus entirely on your tamer. It's an unnecessary skill. You can probably drop Meditation and Eval Int. as well, and in their place I would suggest adding Musicianship and Peacemaking, which will make taming high-end mobs much easier. Firebreathing creatures such as Dragons, Nightmares, Fire Steeds and Reptalons (wait until you meet Reptalons! ) have to be beaten down before taming, as the firebreath is linked to their HP's. The lower the HP, the less damage the firebreath does.Dragon Barding Deeds are armor deeds for Swamp Dragons. They allow a plain green swampy to have armor, in all metals from iron to valorite, and give the person riding them a 20% damage decrease from all attacks. They are favored by Paladins and other melee warriors. What is your taming, lore and vet skills currently at? If you're having difficulty controlling your WW's, you can add +taming and +lore jewelry to make up the shortfall until your real skill level increases. Such jewelry is easy to find in game these days. Most of the newer tameable creatures are capable of one-hit kills, they tend to put the old WW/Nightmare combo to shame. If you have the Mondaine's Legacy expansion, I would suggest getting a Cu Sidhe (elf dog) to start with, they are easy to tame and tamers at the Twisted Weald where they spawn often will give them away as they try to get the highly desired colored pups to spawn. With a Cu Sidhe of your own, you will find that hunting will go much easier. (most casting mobs have been beefed up these days, and might be again in the future; lots of vets in the game that have to be catered to, at the expense of newer players). Acquring Rune Beetles, Hiryus, Reptalons and some of the other new tameables tends to be a team effort these days, although a highly skilled tamer can tame them solo. I would suggest that you change your mage/tamer into a peacemaking tamer, with a template like this: Taming 120 Lore 120 Vet 120 Music 120 Peace 120 Mage 100 (or higher, depending on the age of your account) The Magery will only be used for recalling/gating, with no real offensive spells available other than Mind Blast, which doesn't need Eval Int. to work. You'll notice you don't have Magic Resist with this template, so you'll need to be able to do a quick Invis spell when targeted by mobs; put it on an easy-to-hit macro. If you wish to remain a Mage/Tamer, the template might be: Taming 120 Lore 120 Vet 120 Mage 120 Eval 120 Resist 100 No Med or Focus, so you'll need to choose armor that gives Mana Regen and Lesser Mana Cost in addition to LRC. To summarize: switch to Peace Tamer if you'll be taming lots of tough monsters, stay a mage/tamer if you will only be taming them occasionally. Go with friends when taming the tough mobs, they can help with healing/peacemaking/beating down.

Re: Returning player, Round 2.
I currently have 94.8 taming skill (raising it now...slowly)
93.4 animal lore and only 69.4 vet skill. I recently started raising this.. back when i played, you couldnt rez those pets ;) I will probably stick with the mage tamer. Sadly my knowledge of the game is weak now with all of the new items around. I just finished a 100% LRC suit... but it doesn't give much statwise. I am not sure how I will find everything for a regen/LRC/+taming suit, it took me a day to put this one togeather as is ;) Still lacking in the social department too, most of my friends that I played UO with years ago have moved on.. and none are willing to come back. Hopefully I can find a guild. |

Re: Returning player, Round 2.
What shard are you playing on? If we have a shard in common, I can join you and give you some help getting back into the game. I have fully developed characters on Atlantic, Catskills and Chesapeake.

Re: Returning player, Round 2.
I am on pacific ^^ Thanks for the offer though! This community is a nice change from the WoW/EQ communities.
Also, what did you mean by change to an elf andri? I am currently human. Did you mean remake as an elf or was there a quest to do it? |

Re: Returning player, Round 2.
There is a fun and fairly easy quest to change from a human to an elf, details can be found here.
Elves have a small advantage as tamers: they can tame own, and control Cu Sidhes. Humans can too, but have to have the special artifact pads of the Cu Sidhe to do it, and the pads only allow ownership and control; to tame Cu Sidhes, you have to be an elf.

Grats on turning elf, did you pick one of the dayglo blue ones? Now you can get some taming jewelry and go get yourself a Cu Sidhe, they are very useful pets, as you'll soon find out.
