returning player has questions about the new UO

Hi All,

I haven't played active since 1999 or 2000. I have a few questions I will post below and if you can help me out with any of them, thanks.

1. I want to create a character mainly for PvE (I saw in another post they call it PvM, care to explain whats the difference?") I'm interested in making a mage more than anything with the new spellweaving abilities. I also enjoy PvP occasionally and would like to know recommended/preferred builds for both PvM, PvE, and if there is such a thing a combo character PvM/PvE.

I never got to good at the game back then and my character has both swordsmanship and mage skills. I assume you can't have a good/great character who is mixed in melee/magic?

2.
I ran into a player upon reactivating my account who told me

"people no longer really use reagents" "items have the ability"

I would like to know how and where to get/find/purchase items and what type of items should I seek for (for the meantime and eventually when I work back up the ladder) Sort of "get by items until your back into good stats" and "heavenly items I should start researching"

3.
Where can I find essential items? A friend once gave me 2 runebooks for both cities and dungeons. I'm sure there has been many additions I do not know about. Whats a good way to get items like that and are there any other essential items a modern uo player should seek out?

4.
Are all shards as active as each other? I saw a bit of activity on the Great Lakes shard, but less for the one I'm on (Lake Superior). I'm on the east coast.

5.
Where can one find a house? Are there websites where people trade/sell/buy uo items? I can't seem to find anything on eBay. Maybe thats due to my shard not being so active anymore? I read via wikipedia that there are approximately 125,000 osi users. My main purpose on this one is to make sure I don't work up a character on a shard that's not nearly as fun to play as perhaps the Great Lakes.

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks

Re: returning player has questions about the new UO

Welcome to UO Forums and Welcome Back to UO Cerebrus .

To answer a couple of your questions. Items with the LRC (Lower Reagent Cost) property reduce your need for regs. If you can get a suit to add up to 100% LRC you don't need any regs at all. Runebooks and such can be bought off vendors. You may need to look around for one selling what you want. As far as activity each shard is different. Let us know which one you decide on. Might be able to get you a lot of help from players already on the shard. That will also determine the housing availability. PvM (Player verses Monster) is basically the same as PvE (Player verses Environment). As far as a PvM template the mage with spellweaving will work fine. As far as getting stuff to get by. I would recommend that you go to swoops in twisted wield (you'll need to get the dread horn quest to get in). There you can usually just pick up some pretty good stuff.

Hope this helps some. Others are better at Pvp templates

Thanks for all that. I'd like to stay on Lake Superior if I can find some good players to join.

Re: returning player has questions about the new UO

I KNOW we have some LS players on the boards. 99.99% of the members here are willing to help.
Read though the PvP forum, they are always debating the latest recipe. There are quite a few good ones that include swords and weapons.

As a returneed myself, welcome back!

Re: returning player has questions about the new UO

re: Reagents - the LRC suits only qualify for spellcasting. You still need regs to scribe scrolls and grind potions.

For house buying outside of the game... eBay recently banned all auctions for virtual items, but some of those sellers created web sites. Vita Drakonia's sells items, but I'm not sure about housing: http://vitadrakonia.com/component/op...ore/Itemid,32/

Not sure of the other links where people moved to.

Re: returning player has questions about the new UO

Cerebrus I play on LS. I should be able to help you out if you want help . As far as a runebook. Let me know what runes you would want in one. I'll try to get my lazy mage out and mark them for you.
