Purple rabbits?
Have I missed some important event, or are rabbits turning purple... just for the sake of turning purple?

Have you seen any wild, or seen someone with them tame? AFAIK, they are not free-spawning and seen/attainable through normal measures. I got mine when Adida left the Valentine's Scavenger Hunt on Sonoma the other night. When she poofed she left us with 'pink bunnies'. Many people killed them, I ran up and tamed one. I think on Sonoma 2 others were tamed as well, though I'm not certain, and I have no idea about other shards and if any were saved on each.

I was running south from despise along the mountainside and noticed that all the rabbits (and jackrabbits) were colored purple. Didn't see any pink ones though.

It's possible that it's a purposeful limited time perk for Valentine's day, or that it's a bug from when she colored the bunnies for the event... In this instance, it's impossible to conclude without an actual Dev answer, I guess.
And sorry, Adida called them 'pink' even though they're more purple-hued than pink...I call them fuschia ;)

EAMythic colored all rabbits/jackrabbits for valentines day.
not a bug, although they did not annouce when the rabbits would be changed back to the normal colors, so tame one while you can
