Mining for the new gems
Are they totally random? Or are they like coloured ingots? If a mark a rune where I got a gem, will I get the same gem everytime I recall to the spot?

Yes you have to be GM in mining just like you have to be GM lumberjack to get amber and GM fishing to get pearls.
