Magery

hi there,

I have made a new mage. Can anyone tell me ideal stats to have?
Also what skills make a good mage?

What sort of armour should I look for, LRC or mana reduced etc?

Thank you.

Re: Magery

Depends on what type of mage you want? for pvm or pvp or both? tamer/mage? tank mage? etc

if it is a bog standard mage I would suggest things like:-

magery (as thats what you are, hehe)
eval intell (for damage increase)
Necro (works well with mage spells)
inscription (adds bonus to some spells and good way to make money and fill spell book)
med (but only if you can't afford or find nice suits with high Mana Regen etc)
wrestling (to try and help stop spell fizzle in combat)
mace fighting (same as wrestling but handy for things like the boomstick for its high lrc and still stop spell fizzle in combat)
poisoning (to increase level of poison/poison field)
Spirit speak (to go with necro/mage combo, and can heal u)

my mage is a mage/Necro/tamer, so i have:- magery, eval intel, taming, lore, vet, Spirit Speak and of course necro

his stats are :- Str 100 Dex 40 Intel 110

Re: Magery

PvM

Magery
Eval
Med

then either

Necro
Spirit Speak
Poisoning

or
SpellWeaving
Resist
Inscription

PvP
Magery
Eval
Med
Poisoning
Resist
Wrestilng/Weapon Skill

Stats either way should look like
STR 120
DEX 10
INT 120

Re: Magery

Thanks very much. You have both been very helpful.
I never thought of a mage/tamer it sounds interesting. My experiance is pets dieing when fighting, I guess there is some I can keep alive?

I am totally confused with spirit speak, it used to be a pointless skill which allowed you to talk to the dead, this has changed now?

Re: Magery

Yes spirit speak acts like Eval Int now. So more spirit speak more necro damage w/ spells. Tamers do well especially in PvM w/ their meat sheilds. you can vet pet w/ bandies and magic.

Re: Magery

yeah spirit speak works as Araevin said it powers necro spells, but it also heals the user also... and as you said if you have 100 you can talk and understand the ghosts

Re: Magery

My first mage I ever made was a mage tamer and I liked it cause it tought me how to use magery as well as fight with my animals. I think the perfect setup for a pvm tamer/mage is mage/med/eval/tame/vet/lore. I was able to make a ton of gold and help get started to get the gear I needed. I got lucky and started this char when SE came out, so I spent ALOT of time killing hiryus and onis and was able to build some lrc suits and save alot of gold, and at the same time train the tamer up.

Re: Magery

Taming and Magery sounds very very good, but I hear taming is a nightmare to raise, I guess its because you have to actually do something

At first I am just working on Magery then i'll see from there. More comments sugestions welcome. Thanks.

Re: Magery

Yeah for sure, Taming i find really fun especially while you are training and taming new animals.. it doesn't take as long as you think and its cool because as you train and gain in skill you can train new animals and you will become attatched to different creatures.. you will also be allowed to stable more creatutres as you gain in skill and I find that the lesser monsters/animals I tamed when i had lower skill are still my fav pets which i look after and still train with today and my tamer is 110 taming 120 lore.. for example I have a gaman who is still my fav pet, that takes just one slot and i used to train my mare, cu side and death beetle on him, and because of all the training he can now solo fan dancers, bake kitsunes and even those taka wolves things, those with a little help from me of course but it is cool because you can be different in the way that each person is to there own and has there own way of taming and fav creatures.. of course if i was going to take paragon ballys' or things that were just insane then my hiryu or cu side would come out to play or maybe my runic beetle but i def recommend you doing it as you will also learn that some creatures have special moves too and that can be fun too

as you can see i'm quiet passionate about taming, hehe and have even got a guide and location rune book(s) in my home on europa

Re: Magery

Wow thats great Archaon. Its things like this which I love about the game... the pure passion. Many people do not like certain things and others love them. From reading your post I am very tempted to make a tamer/mage. I guess you need to do loads of mass taming, otherwise I think I wont tame very long.

I want to do magery so I don't see any harm in having a pet also doing damage and working as a tank.

Where is your rune libary? I will come see it.

Re: Magery

its not a very big rune 'library' more or less a few books but its my home that will soon be a shop, but i do have a taming guide which includes taming locations, what taming skill u need and if they have a special moves etc

whats your mage's name i will look out for him

( you can tame off bulls for quiet a while when you are able to tame them, plus your taming will creep up if you just chill and don't worry about.. it can be a dull experience at the same time you can enjoy it.. i enjoyed my training the most out of any profession cause like u said you can practice and train your magery while having some either back up tank like a gaman (sorry i do go on about them) or some cannon fodder like cows and death beetles )

Re: Magery

I found 120ing my 3 taming skills to be the most satisfying of all the skills I have trained over the years. It took a long time, but was worth every bull tamed.... I kinda skipped the hardest part and used an adv char token, but I still did every bit of work to get mine to 120s. I never once stepped foot on a boat to quick vet/lore train either. Every point was earned in the Jhelom bullpen over a 1yr period.
