Hey all, I'm a returning player and I'm curious what shard and area would be a good spot to place a medium to large house?

Any suggestions would be nice.

First I decide which shard is the best place for you to play, lag wise, playing time compared to others. Housing can be found on any number of shards.

BTW Welcome to UOForums!

Finding a location for a house can be difficult, but i think its safe to say that on most shards you can find a place to put a house, Just may take some exploring hehe.

I found an IDOC tower on ice island chessy yesterday. I am not placing, but looting should be good.

I just came back to UO about 4 days ago (after 5 years absent) and I've been almost non stop busting my rump working on mining at the Minoc mining mountain and selling the ingots for quick cash. Once I got up to $100,000 gold then I decided to check out available local real estate in the area and I first tried North of Minoc up by the northern mountain range and it looked like a millionaires neighborhood with wall to wall mansions and castles. Then I came in here and posted my original question but maybe I should have tried a bit more before I asked...

...because I just now ran out East of Minoc across the East bridge and immediately found several spots along the water side for small to medium houses so I placed a 2-story log cabin to reserve the spot I picked.

Now, hopefully later when I get more money then I can customize it and make it bigger... Right?

I'm on Lake Superior btw.

the worsest place to try and put a house is on atlantic since that is alot of ppl there.
and i dont know about any other shard but sonoma has alot of places to put a large house down.

you are correct in your assumption provided the spot you picked will accommodate a larger plot. still you can go to a custom house with the same size footprint as the log cabin when you have more cash.

Bad news coming out of Alantic alot of the idocs arent being replaced with new homes

I just dropped a 15x11 on Atlantic right next to some mountains north of Minoc a couple days ago. Housing is definitely available on Atlantic if you look around for a while. If a person wanted smaller, there are uncountable plots up to the 10x10 size everywhere you look up for grabs.

You can't hardly sell a home on Atlantic unless it's an 18x18 close to Luna, though. I've had to pretty much give away great plots to people before because of not being able to find a buyer.

Well got more money and now have placed a foundation for a 3-story 12x18 custom home in the same spot as my log cabin was. Now I just need to learn ways to save up the $500,000 gold to make my dream home. lol

There has to be a better way than chopping trees to make shafts and killing birds to get feathers to make bolts that sell for approx $14 to $24 each. Not bad money when it doesn't take long to make over 200 bolts but still gonna take a loooooooong time to earn $500,000

Well you could knock out 500k in a matter of a couple of days with a warrior with a good earth elemental slayer just camping out in the first level of shame. Get a weapon that hits hard (doesn't have to be fast) and you can drop them in one hit and get about 200 gold a piece (you can probably ask around the bank and someone will hook you up with a decent enough weapon for free). If no one else is around then you can make 25k in about half an hour or less (pick up the gems and sell them as well).

Not to mention you have the chance for getting a 10th Anniversary artifact drop, which you could unload for a couple 100k or more/less depending on shard market.

I tend to rotate through a lot of different money making techniques to keep things fun, but dropping earth eles is probably one of the fastest if you take into consideration how little it takes to get started.

seems decent spots are open on all shards just gotta go look.
