The durability on my husband's arms got down to 0. It told him his equipment was severelly damaged. Now they're gone. Do they actually break??

When it gets to 0/0 they are gone. Up to then you can save them

good rule of thumb, is when you get that message, stop what you're doing and go home and repair. My buddy, while doing a chain of spawns one weekend, lost his hat of the magi due to severe damage. There were soo many messages on the screen that he didnt even notice it and...poof...no more hat.

Yeah thats what basically happened, so much stuff was coming up on screen and didn't really realize until it was too late and now they're gone =(

What shard are you on? chances are its not Baja, where I am, but if so, I can help replace them, if not me, I am sure there are plenty of people willing to help out here on UOF.

Our rule at home is as soon as it's at 50 or lower durability, we repair it. We don't repair at 51 or 52.

if u lose too much durablity u can always use powder of fort

if I get a good piece or armor, I powder of fort it as high as I can go (255)... then when I get that message, I know I have time to get my arse back to repair.
