Hello to all!

To give a bit of background - I first started playing UO back in 2000, how times have changed! I've been out of the game now for about 3 years, but have decided to give it a go again. I was formerly known as Romie on Europa.

The thing is, I'm having major issues getting UO to connect currently. Im using a laptop with windows vista, which I understand has issues with UO, so to speak.

The solutions I've tried have been as follows:

• Run client in XP compatability
• Run client as administrator
• Update windows as much as possible
• Run spyware removal etc

But STILL I have not found an answer. When I run UO, it doesn't connect at all and I get an 'error reading socket information' message, or something similar.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and I apologise if this has previously been discussed. Also apologies if this is in the wrong forum, but I didn't see a techy sort of forum.

Thanks! It's been a while since I've been in UO. Some of the things I've been reading have been a touch daunting, but we'll see what happens!

Don't know if it's really that big of a deal, but the smart people may need to know if you're trying to run the 2D client, or the newer KR client. Good luck.

Good point!

2D client as it happens. Never did like 3D UO, didn't do anything for me. What's all this KR stuff about? :S

it's actually much ado about nothing since hardly anyone likes it, and EA has seemed to abandon it.......it's just a jumped-up 3d version of UO, laggy and buggy as all get-out.

One thing I've read is that you need to run Vista as "Administrator"

Oops - just reread your post (which I should have done first*doh!*) and I see you have tried the "Administrator" - sorry bout that! I hope you find a solution !

I have not heard of any issues with running UO with Vista. I have two machines with different versions of Vista and a third with XP and all of them run UO fine. Only suggestion I have besides the Admin deal is reinstall UO and make sure you have all the current patches. I know from the last time I installed UO, the client gave me the ok to connect only to not allow me connect all the way through and I had to start the client again to finish patching. As of today the current UO vesion is 6.0.7.0 (patch 66) this information can be found under the password section of the log in screen. Good luck and hope you get in soon.

EA bought Mythic Entertainment a few years ago. Then they (EA) reorganized the online division. Renamed it EAMythic, and put all the Mythic Entertainment people in charge of UO.

what version [CD] you trying to upload UO from?

I have a fairly new PC with Vista and uploaded UO from the 9th anniv CD, after patching I have been able to run 2d with little problems.

If you using an older CD that may be the problem? I'm not really sure.
