What's different?

I haven't played UO since Trammel was released. I didn't necessarily hate it, or eve like it, I just quit playing.

I'm rekindling my interest in UO, and I am curious to know what has changed since those days? Is it still basically the same game?

If basic means that you create a toon and then gain skill. Yes it is the same. If not you will find that it is nothing like it used to be . I believe you will find it a great game to play. I think the main reason is the other players. They are what makes UO better then any other game. IMO

If the last time you played was the period of UO:Renaissance, there are lots of things for you to experience in UO, among which are:

New classes: Paladin, Necromancer, Samurai, Ninja, Arcanist (Spellweaver)

New Race: Elves

New lands: Malas, Ilshenar, Tokuno Islands.

Lots of new skills, and lots of the old skills don't mean much anymore. Loads of new pets and tameables, new dungeons, and armor and weapons that are probably very strange to you if you remember the old vanquishing/power/accuracy type stuff. Weapons and armors now have elemental damage/resists, so careful consideration is needed when selecting your gear.

Houses can be customised, and players have shown great imagination in doing so.

Lots to become familiar with! You'll probably be quite surprised. :shocked:

Great Lakes is where I'm playing. This is where I had my old character. His name is TreeTrunk, and I'm going with a somewhat classic mage build. Looking for some players to frag with if anyone has a guild. So far I've decided on Magery, Med, Eval, and Resist. Any advice on what 3 other skills to use? I want them to be combat related.

Anyone know of any good places to exploit my newbie status? (I can't be attacked outside of dungeons, so I've been trying to fight some good karma/gold giving monsters, but I can't find any decent places yet)

What are the ways of making money now? Seems all the old hotspots are dead. I've been killing harpies for their 50 feathers and selling those for 400GP per harpy (8GP per feather). Seemed like a decent place to start until I can get my feet set.

The game is definitely odd now. I feel like a complete newb

Another question... I just parked my boat because I was going to drydock. However, I got off and I forgot to anchor. Now I can't seem to get back on! Is there a command or anything?

Recall off of your ship key is the easiest way. If you can't find it in your backpack, there should be a spare in your bank box.

You can cast Recall and target the key. It will take you back onto the boat.
