#293209 One of my roles as News Manager.

Posted by Tabbitha on 20 November 2010 - 02:09 PM

I would just like to clarify one of the roles I have on UOForums.

Like all the staff here I am a volunteer here and having once played UO with a passion I still have a great affection for the game.

Thats why I volunteer my time to try help current players of the game.

One of my 'roles' [ along with the rest of 'the team' ] is therefore to help get as much news and information to these forums as possible to help keep players as up to date as we can.

The more information we can pass onto you,the better the game experience should be..

With recent changes to 'ownership' etc of the game,as it stands now,Stratics is the first stop for the posting of all EM news and events.

It is known that many of our posters here do not use Stratics for various reasons.

(Neither of the last 2 points are criticisms in anyway ,just fact.)

However sometimes we are unable to carry information over because it is not 'ours' to give,ie :- Player written reports on events other have compiled and posted.

We have tried to recruit Reporters to commit to regular posts/reports but have not been very successful.

Thats not saying we dont have some committed players who post excellent stuff of UO happenings with great screen shots.

We are all very grateful for their efforts,and no one knows more than me what a very time consuming job it is to play in game, take screenies and then edit it all into a report.

EM posts are different as they fall into the category of promoting a public event every player of the game is entitled to attend.

As the EM's do not visit our forums,players could miss out on these events.

Therefore we bring those posts to these forums in a bid to enhance players experience of the game.

These posts are usually copied and pasted with a link back to the original source.

Again these are not our posts to plaguerise and often contain important times and dates,so need to be reposted here without errors.

I hope this clarifies a few points for people and thankyou for reading.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Please message myself /any of the Admin team should you wish to become a Reporter.
If you dont have the free time to report but have something you would like to submit from an event you have attended please send to me via a PM and I will be happy to compile it for you.
It can then be posted accrediting you for your efforts
#293545 Happy Thanksgiving!
Posted by Adam on 23 November 2010 - 11:40 PM
HEAR YE!
Mutant, feathered beasts of the Abyss have been sighted throughout the realm! The valleys stir, rabble rousing from their freakish gobblers pierce the night air, emitted from the most foul and alien beaks your eyes have ever seen. A fire, the thirst, it burns in their eyes from the blackest pits of their souls.
So board up your houses, hide your children or grab your swords - Turkey day cometh and we hope you brought your appetite!
From all of us here at BioWare Mythic - Have a safe and happy holiday,
#363641 My personal tribute to this wonderful game
Posted by marcelomusza on 17 January 2014 - 09:20 PM
Hey guys,
I've been playing UO since I was a kid, lots of good memories and years invested in this beautiful virtual world. It is something that I have attached to myself and I can't simple forget about the fact that I grew up with this game.
Anyways, as I play violin in my free times, I decided to create a channel on YouTube and I'll start uploading my own versions of UO songs.
I just wanted to share with you my first recording, a tribute to the theme of the game, in the login screen, named Stones :)
https://www.youtube....h?v=iksGTJ1GXIw
I hope you like it guys, make sure to subscribe as more will come shortly!!!
See you soon
Marce
Edit: Sorry I forgot to mention, this is my first message I never posted in this forum, so glad to be here!!!
#368204 Journalist covering UO for Rock Paper Shotgun
Posted by Petra Fyde on 14 June 2015 - 06:58 PM
I started playing October 2000, having bullied my younger son into letting me have a character on his account. December 2000 my husband and I got an account together and we have both played ever since.
I play because I enjoy playing. Through the game I have made many, many friends in many different countries and of a wide range of ages.  I've never met some of these people, but over the years they have supported me through times of trouble, helped me stay online through computer breakdowns and talked me through computer problems.  They have been 'there' for me in a way that neighbours who actually live nearby never have.
It endures because it is diverse, appealing to many different people with many different play types and makes no demands - basically you do what you want, when you want, if you want. You don't have to commit to hours online while undertaking a 'raid'. You can log in for 10 minutes and still feel you've achieved something.  It endures because players have 'ownership' of property, they have houses which they have built and furnished, they 'live' in UO.
I remember: fighting my first dragon. Taming my first big pet, buying my first house, hunting with a guild of like minded players, despite them living in several different time zones.
I value the community that is Ultima Online to the extent that I actively write playguides to help others understand the game.  I do that entirely voluntarily and without reward other than the occasional message of thanks from a player my guides have helped.
#366146 Creating a Return to Britannia Info Page on UOGuide
Posted by JCtheBuilder on 09 October 2014 - 02:35 AM
I was going to send out a message to a lot of former UO players but then I realized I don't have a specific page that can reference for their return to UO. This I have been working to setup this:
www.uoguide.com/return
If anyone else can help out in building it I would appreciate it. If you know a former UO player who might be interested in some recent changes you can also help by tossing them a link to the page.
#365738 Screenshot collage tool for reports
Posted by Hoagie on 04 August 2014 - 07:56 PM
Hello all!
Seems there are few people still flying the flag of Europa, but I was tinkering and made something that I hope will come in handy, in some way, to anyone still producing reports with lots of cropped screenshots.
http://screenshot-co....herokuapp.com/
Just upload your .zip file of cropped screenshots, and it'll spit out a single image with all of the images nicely presented.
For best effect, the image names should be numerically ordered, and images should be roughly the same size, though there is quite a lot of  lee-way in this regard.
Keep it real, Europa!
#292987 Township Leadership Meeting Scheduled for 12/2/2010 at 8:30pm ET
As the title states, the meeting regarding the future of the Township Series will be held on Thursday, December 2nd 2010 @ 8:30pm ET. We ask that the primary leader from each Township please assemble at the Hall of Commons.
Further,
To assuage some of the angst that seems to be prolific in the midst of this announcement:
We are not canceling the series.
We will finish the Livery quests.
All other details regarding the Township Series will be announced at the aforementioned date and time.
Thank You.
#292765 The Name of the Enemy
Posted by Galen on 16 November 2010 - 02:56 PM
For those who haven't noticed yet, the most-recent round of fiction posted on UO.com finally gives a name for the devil of Magincia, the enemy of the In the Shadow of Virtue plotline: It's Virtuebane (though curiously the fiction calls it "Virtue Bane"), who was first seen in Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar. This makes sense, as In the Shadow of Virtue in-part revolves around attempts to rebuild on Magincia island, and Virtuebane in Ultima IV was seen around the ruins of Magincia, and presumably was at least part of, or was the power behind, that ruin.
I have been expecting to see Virtuebane in UO since the first Magincia Invasion some years back. I'm glad he was selected as the villain of this plotline, though I find the splitting of his name into two words instead of the traditional one word to be odd.
#148551 Greetings Everyone
Posted by Mesanna_EA on 08 May 2008 - 01:10 PM
Thanks Adam for making me feel so welcome here. Since most of you don't know me I would like to post a short introduction letter.
Greetings Everyone,
I can’t believe I have been working on UO for almost 6 years now and I am just now getting around to officially introducing myself. I started playing UO in 97, wow those were really good times!
I have so many great memories and experiences with UO. Do you guys remember the first time you logged into the game and your first impression of everything, or the first time you were PK’d? (That guys name is still written on my old monitor =P). I never knew how sweet revenge was until I ran into that guy in a dark corner of Shame. *evil laugh*
Back to the reason I am writing this. I started working on UO when it was in TX in the QA department as the Senior Lead External Tester. This was way before we had set skills on Test Centers. Back then there were Counselors. My character name is Mesanna. I have spoken to a lot of players over the years, and to the ones I haven’t I would like you to know I am always open to communication. I currently hold the position of Associate Development Manager. I am sure you are asking, What does that mean?”. =P My duties are too numerous to say, but the one thing I am sure you guys would like to know is I bring to light the issues being reported and make sure we can fit the most important ones into the schedule. I also try to make sure we not only fix the new bugs but try to get in a few of the old ones also. I am a big gamer, and yes I still play UO when I have time.
With all the changes and moves I want to ensure everyone we have a great group of people working on UO. Everyone is very passionate about the game and wants it to be the best it can be. *Snickers* That sounded like a recruiters statement. It’s funny to have a group of people start talking about UO and next time you see them they are all sitting on the floor in a circle having a creative session trying to decide if the world should blow up or if we should just plant flowers. =P
(Cal’s note: Since Adida has bunnies, no more flowers ever!!)
I won’t sit here and promise you guys anything, but be patient and we will be able to show you all the little ideas dancing in our heads. =) Take care everyone and remember we as a collective group read everything you guys write yes, the good and the bad. We just don’t have the hours in the day to respond to all the emails we get.
Cheers!!!
#365431 Coming Back after 10 years?
Posted by Guido on 22 June 2014 - 02:48 PM
High level characters - after 10 years, they're mediocre, at best.
Account deleted - 99.999999% not - I can't honestly recall anyone ever stating that EA/pick-a-partner ever deleted an account, or the characters associated with them.  Any house(s) will be gone, however.
Starting over is different.  Some things are easier, and others more difficult.  8x8 is gone, for example.
Taming still takes forever to level, but there's now jewelry to help make up the difference, as well as something called pinks, which are basically skill gains on 'paper'.
If you remember your account name, and call EA customer support, and connect with someone that isn't a complete and total moron, odds are good you may be able to retrieve your old accounts.
#292998 TSA body scan/patdown rant
Posted by Guido on 18 November 2010 - 04:57 AM
You sign away certain rights to travel on an airplane. You don't sign them away forever, and you don't have to travel via airplane. Part of buying a ticket is consenting to search.
We sign away portions of our constitutional rights every day in America:
- Walk into a bar. You can't light up. Step outside, bub.
- Join the military. No first amendment free speech for you.
- Visit you kid at school? No concealed carry, licensed or not (typically)
I do this for a living, folks. Trust me when I say that the terrorists are out there. They are evil. They want to kill your children and will exult in your tearful anguish. Most of them *look* like terrorists, but some of them look like you or me.
Terrorists are plotting to kill you. Every. Day. Eventually, they will slip something past security that kills a bunch of people...again. Let's delay that day as long as possible, and use every tech trick in our bag while we build a better mousetrap.
~M
And with this bolded part of the quote, the terrorists have won. Plain and simple. These actions by the government are no different than the internment camps of the 40's, when we threw thousands of Asians into what basically amounted to concentration camps, simply because of how they looked. They are no different than the McCarthyism of the late 40's and 50's, when the evil red commies were out to destroy our way of life. No different than J. Edgar Hoover in the 60's, keeping files on American citizens that were guilty of having thoughts and ideals different than those that were in *POWER*. Or Tricky Dicky, and his "list" in the 70's. And so on, and so on.
Your examples are disingenuous, at best, Magister -
If you walk into a bar, you already KNOW the local laws, which, by the way, are LOCAL ordinances, and not federally mandated. I can go, within an hour by car, to 5 different states, and smoke and drink in a public establishment in at least 2, and possibly 3 of them.
If you join the military, you sign a contract - you KNOW what you are getting in to. I know that I did. And you don't give up 1st amendment rights - you agree to abide by the UCMJ, which limits certain aspects of the 1st. But again, I reiterate, you SIGN a contract, so ignorance isn't an excuse.
If you go on to school property, and you aren't a LEO, you know it's illegal to carry a weapon on property - it's only posted all over the place. I can't honestly think of a valid reason to carry an operational weapon on to school property to begin with. I say operational, because when I was in school, the ROTC kids would drill with very non-functional rifles - I don't know if that holds true or not any longer.
But as to your first line, I sign away NO rights when it comes to air travel. I sign no contract, expressed OR implied, allowing for complete body searches and/or scans, and I defy you to show me where I do.
I'm an educator, and I'm a southern conservative - I'm educated enough to know better, and I'm politically savvy enough to know this is bullocks.
Government. Officials. Are. Plotting. Every. Day. To. Figure out ways to dig more money out of my pocket, and this latest set of regulations is no different.
The plugin I am having developed for this site is coming along nicely, infact, it's almost finished!
The only part left to do, is to allow people to edit their own styles, but the rest is pretty much complete.
This new addon will give pre selected guild masters/mistresses, many new abilities in managing their forum
Please see the screenshots below.
