Gems from Mining

Ok.. is there some secret to this?? I have been mining for about 2 hours now.. in caves, on mountainsides, in fel, in tram, in malas.. and not one single gem yet?? Is there something I'm missing (besides my sig and my swords) LOL

I mine the southern mountains inside Delucia from the wall near the stables to the cave entrance. In one pass I got 4 gems.

What level of mining skill do you have? mine is 105 (100 real & +5 mining gloves)

Seems odd that you aren't pulling gems. Do you mine until there is no ore left at each spot? You will not get the gem right off, it may be one of the last things you get.

It seems to be kind of a luck thing...
some people are getting 10 in an hour...but then they can't pull up another one for 3 hours. Some people can barely pull them up at all.

I do think you need GM mining though..

I've mined a total of about 2 hrs since ML and have gotten 2 Torquoise, 1 Diamond and 2 of a kind I can't remember offhand, all were mined in Illshenar around Spirituality Shrine. Also use regular picks and only have GM mining with no type of bonus.

Do u need to have your pickaxe set to ore or stone and ore?

During beta, this had no significant impact. This is all anecdotal since I didn't so exhaustive studdies, but i didn't note a difference, with or without it set to rock. I also tried mining and fishing in a high luck suit. That didn't seem to make a difference either.

I have been just recalling around and mining at my color spots.. I have gotten two fire gems.. a Torquoise, and a couple others I cant remember... all this in about an hour... not tried sense then... but at least I am getting ore as I look for gems... Pax,Silk

You have to have GM mining.
After that it's all random.

Dunno if it matters but mine are all set to ore only.

That's the part I needed to know. With gloves I am at 95 is all. Do I need a natural GM mining or would 95 and the gloves be enough?
