Morals...Do Pk's have them?

In my experience since I started playing UO, I've noticed that PK's are very aggressive and cocky towards other players. Most of which ends up in other characters they have being the scammers running around Trammel.
What do you guys/gals think???

Depends on where you play really.. on many of the proddy shards you'll always have a bunch such as you described. For the most part though, they're usually balanced out with a good number of mature, RP evil PK's which make the game exciting.

While there are certainly ALOT of immature, foul mouthed PK's out there.. I would certainly not generalize ALL PK's in that nature however.

As for scammers.. most scammers I've encountered can't hold their own.. when busted, they have usually bolted or just moved on in search of another victim. This is why you'll rarely see them on Fel.. they'd be more fun to farm than some of the monsters in the game. *grin*

I am a counselor in real life and when 7 years ago I started playing UO, I felt there was a coorelation between the criminal elements in our society and the people who 'chose to go red'.

I still think it would be a great college thesis for some up and coming Psych student to do.

Like Spyder said, there are a lot of nasties out there.

I have now played production shards and have found a huge element of immature and foul mouthed/ minded individuals on production there.

You will find less of these on Siege but ONLY because Siegiens live by their reputation and if you are perceived as one of the scammer/hacker/griefer jerks you won't remain on the shard for long. Siegiens ain't nothing if not persistant and the scum pretty much get ran off the shard rather quickly.

One of the hardest things for me when I tried production shards was not being able to retaliate to jerks.

God, how frustrating!

ooops, strayed off topic.

Bottom line is while there is a definate increase in the red scammers, hackers and basic lacking of morals.... I have found that it is not always and even many times not red/blue based.

I used to wonder about it, myself. One reason I could never quite come to grips with being a red PK was the fact I don't like to be mean to people. And even though I know it's an RP game in it's intent... I couldn't fathom even RPing someone who was mean or evil.

On Siege, we have our share of those people who I think are basically just mean... if you've ever read Battle Vortex, you'll know some of them. What's funny is, a few of the jerks actually play blue characters. Go figure.

Heh.. I know exactly the choice few you're speaking of Dev.. there are a few downright "evil" folks on Siege and not necessarily in an RP sense. I've never played a good red either though. Briefly on Siege, but I forgot I was red until I moused over myself or tried to buy from a vendor out of habit. On Sonoma I had a red years ago, but got that from wars with other guilds, not randomly murdering people for sheer entertainment. That's where I think the line is drawn on this subject.. those that are PvP's and those who are in it for the simple bliss of killing other people.. perhaps a third shade on the spectrum would be the grief-killers who go out of their way to kill with the full intent of ruining other's gaming experience.

I've seen some really nice pks too. My guy is one. He'll chase you around til he kills you, if he had a hard time doing it, he'll give you props for it. If he had a real easy time doing it, he'll stay and chat and give advice on what to do to maybe prevent it from happening again. And if it's just him and the guy he killed, he usually rezzes them.

Yeah... BV is a scerrry scerry place.

I was their target for a while last year.... egads .... so glad THAT is over with.

Do any of you know (God help you) or remember Calamity/Hel and Shy/Paris/Cherish charectors...?

Very far and few between, but that is becoming true for pks and non pks.

Nice, generalizing that "most" players that have PK's are scammers.

Thanks, but umm.. for your info, accounts can have up to 6 chars, just because someone decides to play a PK sometimes, doesn't mean they're a scammer. Just about anyone can figure out a way to scam someone, doesn't matter what other chars they play. What char they play has nothing to do with it, it just matters the mindset behind the person that decides to do crap like that.

Agreed... not all PK's are scammers.. not all PvP'rs are Griefers... there are so many shades of grey...
