Hi!

I just decided to start playing UO again so I bought this upgrade key and installed UO, Activated my old (very old) account.

I found that I still have some various characters on Drachenfels GM Tailor/Archer/Fisherman/Healer was one of them (I am sure i had a great plan back then but can't seem to figure it out now)

Anyway, the place is totally deserted, even Britain is a ghost town. Not a single soul at the western Bank in brit.
I found out about these forums, checked the Drach shard forums and it seem to be equally low on action as it is ingame. Is it like this on all shards or is Europa a more populated place ingame?
Is it worth to move to another shard and do you guys suggest starting over with all new characters or pay for a transfer to the Europa shard?

Yea, I bet all the shards are active more or less. The question though: How many hours would you have to spend looking before you find a fellow player in the world?

I decided to head over to a few different servers and have a look and when it comes to player kindness Lake Superior and Atlantic are Stars!


First of all. My intentions were to figure out if the server was 'alive', not to see how many thousands of gold I could squeeze out of my fellow players so I never asked for anything, not Gold, Items or Advice.
I simply told my story that I am a returning player looking for a new home since the old server is a ghost world. And asked if the server we were on had a rich and healthy community...

Here's how it went:

Drachenfels - I went to the west brit bank and there was no action whatsoever, not that I was expecting a *surprise-party* - squad greeting me but atleast someone would have been nice

If there's a place where the Drach people meet up and socialize I would very much like to know where that place is... it it NOT anywhere in britain that's for sure


Europa - Started a new char here... there were lots of people in New Haven especially at bank area... They were not very kind however and not very role-playish, which is fine really. Just I don't think you will get alot of new players to the server as long as those who greet the newcomers trick us into entering a gate and then they disappear after we reached our goal. Took me 3 hours to get back to haven, thank you...

I am sure there are loads of nice people on Europa but my experience here was horrible with people not being the least interested in speaking to a newcomer.


Lake Superior - The best newcomer experience. Someone tried to lure me to jump into a gate for 'nameless destination' but there were lots of people stopping it from happening. First I thought 'ok this is what UO is like on all servers' (remembering my Europa Fiasco), I was wrong... Players spent hours helping me with advice and gave me a recap on the "lastest" uo-news
I like it here, I think Lake Superior will be my new home.


Atlantic - very much like Lake Superior. Lots of people who were not afraid to talk to a stranger.

I Started a new character and went killing some Undeads out of town. I failed miserably and there was a player who watched me run between my corpse and the wandering healer a couple of times, then he placed 3000+ gold on the ground and told me to buy some skills from the trainers

Now I will play some more on Atlantic and Lake Superior before I decide which one will be my new home.

RPers are only on at around 2:30 - 7:00 pm EST (GMT being 5 hours ahead of EST I believe) and they never RP around west britain because there are too many non RPers.

It's for the europa RP community.

Europa's RP is -still(?)- active and based in a few areas.

Yew - Just down the path by the graveyard there, there's an opening where the Yewish militia are based called 'Stonekeep'.

Cove - Just outside the walls, to the north there is a tavern and the militia barracks.

Vesper - South from the graveyard you'll find another tavern called the Swaggers Inn which you'll find most of the active Vesperians througout the day.

Trinsic - The west entrance into Trinsic is usually always busy, and it's the only place they hang around (outside the jails). They also have their own tavern, The Trinsic Rose which is West from the moongate.

There are others RPers and guilds roaming around but they're the four main areas to find activity. The active hours would be 6pm BST to around 3am BST (It's so late because alot of the population are american or insomniacs).

Hmm you must have had realy bad luck in New Haven.... usaly allways someone around to help new players be it HLP or some of us who just donate to em once in a while
