Make sure the PSU can handle it all, also make sure you got enough fans.

Re: Upgrading my computer.

Yea the case already has two large 80mm fans in it

Ok, so the system build went ok
I set it all up and it powered up first time (hurrah!)
Started to install XP, then changed my mind and went for Vista (....silly me )

See screenshots for Experience score and processor
Originally I was only getting 5.4 in the memory score, which surprised me, but then I realised I was only running in single channel mode
Switching the ram to dual channel = 5.9
The only "weak" point according to Vista is the harddisk, which is odd, given that it's a 10,000 rpm raptor drive, although it's somewhat old.

One problem I've got, the board for some reason isn't detecting my Soundblaster Fatality sound card?
Even though the sound card's red light is on (so properly connected), it doesn't show up in Device manager at all and isn't detected by Vista.
Running the software/driver install throws up an undetected error to
I tried using the 2nd PCI slot, still nada
Bahhhhhhhhhhhh

So I've written to Gigabyte.

Re: Upgrading my computer.

Weird, wonder if it's just Vista not seeing the soundcard.

Adam- you may need to disable the onboard sound in the bios.

Re: Upgrading my computer.

Are using the drivers that came with the card? If so let vista find the drivers for you.

Been looking on the net and some ppl are having the same probs and looks like its driver related

Also make sure you have vista service pack one installed

Re: Upgrading my computer.

Nah it's not driver related, because it doesn't even find the card to install any drivers

SP1 is installed

Re: Upgrading my computer.

Even if its not recognised it could still be a driver problem. Not sure which model you have but here is the link for support from Creative.

Re: Upgrading my computer.

Aye it could be
I thought it might be the chipset drivers, but then I realised i'd already installed em, heh
I might try installing XP on a seperate drive to see if it works in xp.
