![]() | DSL + Router = Not Good I have to admit that I'm dumb.. and behind the times. I just got DSL for myself not long ago. Let's just say that life has not been kind and recently I just got enough freedom from one particular oppressive wench who used to beat me, well... that's another story. *ahem* I have DSL and decided to try and split it with a router... UO plays like a breeze until someone up and decides to get on YouTube on the other PC. Then it's like I have 56k all over again... getting a router wasn't a good idea was it... or is it just because it's streaming video? |

![]() | Re: DSL + Router = Not Good Usually, yea, because the bandwith is saturated. What kind of router is it? Make/model? Some routers have a quality control feature, so you can set a max download/upload rate for a paticular PC. |

![]() | Re: DSL + Router = Not Good It's a Belkin Wireless-N. Actually it seems that only YouTube is doing this. Streaming audio has no effect, but streaming video bogs me down crazy-like. As long as they stay off youtube... |

![]() | Re: DSL + Router = Not Good Youtube doesn't actually use that much bandwidth so I am kind of surprised that you get *THAT* bad of a drop. With others using the connection you will see lag, but it shouldn't be unplayable. As Adam suggested, some routers allow you to limit how much bandwidth a machine can grab. Or just beat them silly when they hit youtube and you are playing . I know if someone hits update on our PS3 while I'm playing UO things go to hell, but it would do the same thing if I were downloading in the background. |

If you have 784k/128k DSL, you will see a performance hit when sharing bandwidth that is gaming and streaming video at the same time. 784k/128k just sucks for any sharing on multiple PCs. 1.5m or better for sharing, 3m is good, and 6m DSL if you have it available. And if you have FiOS available... just do it. ![]() |
