![]() | Return to catskills - back being a noob :-) Hi there citizen of the greatest server of all! Catskills. I'm a very happy guy a.t.m after receiving a mail from EA saying they found my 10 year old Ultima Online account! ![]() ![]() ![]() I haven't played since year 1998-1999 somewhere so I know a lot is changed. I was one of Sandralene's many friends back then if anyone remember her. Even though a lot of people is flaming about allot of the new stuff in this game, I feel like giving it a try. Though I'm way behind, so any tips and tricks would help me allot! My thoughts: First of all I would need to make some cash for house, equipment etc.... I thought maybe I could make a lumberjacker with fletching/bowyer skill. To sell arrows and bolts maybe? I hear people want this. Any suggestion here? For main character, I have a human mage I created in 1998, but think I rather wanna try make an Elf Mage. I need a good template setup for this one, also if Necromancy should be considered? My goal with this guy is to become a strong Mage DMG wise. Any hints and tips regarding my comeback would be greatly appreciated! Also if you could write it in a noob language so I would understand it, you would rock my world ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Return to catskills - back being a noob :-) It's still fun. I came back to my old account (and Catskills) and I've had fun with it so far. For a mage - not sure how much you've read or not read, but find (and I can help you find) a 100% LRC suit for training up a mage - it makes it unecessary to carry aroung regs for the spells. I have a lot of pieces for a 100% LRC suit I'd be happy to give you. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Return to catskills - back being a noob :-) Is this the returning player from a long time ago club? *raises hand* I was one of them! But that was about 9 months ago. First, a little advice about "charity". It isn't charity. It is a time honored tradition of giving our hard earned stuff away. No, really, it is. I've been doing it for years now. Well, maybe not years in a row, but still... been doing it for years. And when I came back, someone hooked me up with an LRC suit and now I'm happy to donate mine to someone new or returning or just changing shards. Your idea about making a fletcher and making arrows is a top notch idea. Making arrows is one of the, if not the best ways of making gold in the game outside of artifacts and rares... and neither of those are available to the new player. Everyone wants arrows, but few people want to take the time to make them. And the good thing about making arrows is that you can build a complete character while still working on the flying pointy sticks. Just get good enough to kill harpies. Then anyone in GRI, FURY or CYM would be happy to show you where you can get feathers faster than you can loot 'em. We supply guidance and training as well. Now, lets see about that template. Hrmm, archer/swordsman/mage. That is soooo ten years ago. Lets see if we can fit you into something with a little bit more pizazz! Oh, yeah, that GM magery will look nice with meditation and evaluating intelligence. The first will really rev up the intellectual juices, and knowing how smart your enemies are will give your twinkles that little extra tweak they need to really light up the night! While you're at it, try some of that necromancy and spirit speaking. You could really wake the dead with a combination like that. And OH what an awakening it will be! Lets see. We now have you in five skills, but the skill that will set off the whole combination is resisting spells. I know, it doesn't look like much to begin with since it only resists curses. But over time, not being cursed and poisoned will brighten up day after day. For the last skill, inscription really compliments magery. And at GM level, you get an EXTRA 10% damage to every damaging spell cast. And we all love a little extra 10%, don't we? But the real joy of inscription is in doing the newbie scribe quest. The reward for that quest is a Hallowed spell book which allows you to do double damage against all undead creatures. It is worth having even if you dont want to put inscription on your character in the long run. In short: GM magery, GM meditation, GM eval int, GM inscription, GM necromancy, GM spirit speak, GM resist spells. That'll start you out gooooood. |

![]() | Re: Return to catskills - back being a noob :-) Thanks alot guys, and especially you Farsight. That reply really made my day ![]() I will print it and follow that to the end ![]() I just came out here after a long run in UO, and had a very nice GRI member handing me an LRC suit and showed me around in New Haven. This is so fantastic, the community, you guys.... this is really something to hold on to. I really hope that when I have my Mage/ Necro complete I will have more knowledge about the game and will be an asset to a nice guild ![]() |
