It is rather silly, i think the argument is that they dont have the code to duplicate any previous eras? Why not have a quick look at some of the freeshards out there (clue: none of them are perfect, so you would need to do some extra work), perhaps have a month long focus group and bobs your uncle. Run it in tandem with current UO, bit of marketing - surely lots of people would come back? From a PvP perspective, i would play any of these eras almost 24/7:

1. Pre UO:R hally mage with or *without* precast
2. Post UO:R Mindblast
3. Archery harm mage, just post of AOS

But this is the tricky bit, surely current UO is better for the non PvP player? There is certainly more to do. Its an interesting topic.
