Hello all!

As I clean out my home, I'm finding a few trinkets that - while certainly nifty and deeply cherished by yours truly - I've decided to sell for large sums of gold.

So - what to do with this gold? Spend it, of course!

I'd like your opinion, fellow forum-dweller, as to what you think the three MOST useful, MOST desireable items in UO might be.

The only stipulation in this survey is that the item must have some function other than pure decoration. For example: Rubble trees are spiffy, but they don't actually *do* anything.

To clarify: I don't have hundreds or even dozens of millions to spend (although I am in double-digit millions), so telling me that I should buy the original vine cord sandals for umpty-fratz million gold is less than useful. Try to stick with things less than 20M, please. Anything else is just out of reach unless I sell my Crimson Cincture, which I'm not prepared to do.

It can be a weapon, a rare, a power scroll, a reward, an artifact or an event item, just to name a few possibilities. I assume I'm looking for 'named' items, but it doesn't necessarily have to be hugely expensive to make your top three list!

well the three most coveted things for me are an uncursed AoF, Swords of propserity, and a nice taming jewel with 100 luck.... but then again, those are just mine... (ps i finally got the first two... still looking for that awesome piece of jewelry.)

Wow. This is interesting, as the top three things I go for REALLY depend on the character, not necessarily the account. However, thinking about it across all the stuff I have, and leaving out things like a house (THE best thing in all of UO), mine would probably be:

1. Ornament of the Magician- so useful for so many char types.

2. Ethy- take your pick on which one, but these are awesome tools.

3. Rune Beetle Carapace- like the orny, useful for the majority of temps.

Again, there is probably 30 things I left out.....AoF, HotM, Crimmy....lots. Just depends on the person I guess.

Just like jfk, mine depends on the character.

For my archer:
1. Crimson
2. 120 archery scroll
3. Awesome demon slayer bow

For my mage:
1. Repond slayer Scrapper's I saw for sale awhile back
2. Hat of the Magi (uncursed)
3. Demon slayer spellbook

What type of char are you shopping for? That may help narrow it down.

Ah ha! I see a detail I've overlooked, which might provide focus for the (excellent) answers I'm getting:

My most played characters are:

Mage (Necro/SW/Magery)
Tamer (w/Discord & Peace)
Stealth Thief (ironically, with Stealth and Thievery)

Or, if you can find it, a 100%LRC suit all 70s. That isn't too hard to put together with a bit of searching.

Okay, with your characters, I'd grab:

1. Orny

2. Shadow Dancer leggings (uncursed) and 120 stealing and stealth scroll

3. 120 Magery (and/or Eval/Resist/Meditation/SS/Necro)

CC has to be the best overall item in game. Can be used by any profession and be a benefit.

DiP - Personally, I think Item Bless Deeds are the best items in-game...but those definitely don't meet my 20M threshhold! After that, I think I'd say CC for sure.

I didn't consider those as items. They do have a good use though.

Thanks, everyone for your responses. Based on your input, I went ahead and purchased a (blessed) Hat of the Magi. I'm a little disappointed with it - not because of the properties, but because I will now have to rebalance the resists on my formerly 70/63/70/70/75 suit. I was previously using Kasa of the Rai-jin, which is nicely balanced across all resists. Most of my optional suit items were skewed toward energy and posion resists - which, naturally, means the best resist properties of the HoM are lost to me.

However, I am digging the extra SDI, the mana boost and the MR 4! My suit is now something like LRC 100, LMC 40, SDI 42, MR 14, 2/6.

Why did I buy the HoM? I already had many of the items you all suggested and I couldn't afford a 120 magery. Plus, I found a nice deal: 6.5M for a blessed HoM seemed cheap to me.

I still have a few mills, and I've been getting lucky with stealing 120s lately, so keep the suggestions coming!
