I would like to apologize for the frequent slowness and downtimes from the past few weeks. It appears UOGuide is becoming a victim of its own success. So many people are using the site now that the server is running out of memory. There are two options to handle this problem. The first being to try and re-code Mediawiki to use less memory. While it is something I would like to tackle, that just isn't possible.

The second is moving to a server with more resources, including memory. This should happen within the next few days. Unfortunatly more also costs more. It is a good thing that all the new support methods were setup because they are certainly going to be needed. There are a variety of ways to support UOGuide now from items sales to direct donations to even UOAM hosting. Please check out the new Item Shoppe and help keep this great UO service running.

I have temporarily removed most addons, such as the poll. Hopefully this will have some effect in speeding things up until the server move. There is also a new version released for Mediawiki, I'll try and get the upgrade done this weekend. It should continue some speed improvements.

Shame ya didn't take up my offer, you could've saved yourself extra expense.

I think it is important that UOGuide remains autonomous as possible. There is a good relationship with the messageboard hosting here and perhaps some other collaborations can happen. But sharing the same host would not be beneficial at this time.

Either the off-lining of the addons improved memory usage or some server-side issues cleared up. In any case, the move will still happen but it will take place in a week or two. I think the current speed of the site is acceptable until that happens.

Oy I'm suffering problems with the site that currently hosts me. I may be seeking autonomy shortly. At any rate, good luck with the move!!

I hear you (and Kit) regarding autonomy, as some of you may remember, there were periods where UOF was down for extended periods because we shared a server with others

Even with a VPS, which was supposed to be better than a shared platform, there was no guarantee that one of the others hosted on that server, didn't use up all the resources and make other sites run slowly, or not at all, so I opted for the dedicated solution.

Which, so far *crosses fingers* has been the best solution, albeit more expensive than I'd like.

Dare I say, I don't think it's possible for UOCraft to generate enough traffic to require dedicated hosting... even the best cu farmer could only hit the server once every couple minutes! LOL

I contacted our host and there is no telling when the upgrade would be. They said a few weeks but now it has been a month. I am going to try and find a new web hosting provider.
