malice23,says exactly what I was thinking as not a word from EA reps since last Friday.

Hey Jer, I dont want any spoilers or anything.. im sure you've been reading the boards a little bit.. are we on the right track with this event? Does Sutek have somthing to do with whats going on? Maybe Dexter as well?

Theo_GL agreed that some 'plan' was needed for people to know 'what' they were supposed to be doing

I agree. Some level of 'communication' around our progress would be helpful to let us enjoy the event.

I can honestly say I've participated more in this one than any other but I am at a loss for what I am 'supposed' to be doing. I know how to use the blackrock to get robes, I'm collecting a mountain of shields/swords, I have lots of string that talks to me but I don't feel like I have any idea what the event is about.

I'm not saying spoil it and spoon feed us but have several phases of the event and post bulletins to keep everyone up to speed.

"Here ye citizens! It has been discovered that blackrock can be channelled to create intense destruction near the shadow lords. However, a special mages council has been called to discuss whether or not citizens should be vanquishing the shadow lords with the powerful blackrock or if there is another more important use of the material. '

Etc.. That would give us a clue that 'hey you found how to do one thing, but there is another option you are missing'

Does that make sense? Lead us along so we can pick up the clues and move foward. Otherwise I'm running around moonglow killing everything for no apparent reason.

~~~~~
Sadly no further response that day.Maybe us reporters will be able to find more leads tomorrow for Ultima players wanting to push forward in this event.
[Tabbitha was quoting someone else I know]
What has anyone "supposed" to have done in any EA/Mythic event over the past x years?
Fight monsters and collect phAt l007
Or let your cities crumble to rubble so you can have some nice piXle cr4ck
Aye everyone is rather fed up of another event which is nothing more [ atm] than killing hoardes of critters and dying.
Only thing winning it seems is the insurance bug.
Re: I think we scared them away....
Wouldn't that just be it? Some entrepreneurial-minded (and slightly dishonest!) Dev builds in a system to syphon all the insurance money onto a personal UO account, then sells it for rl money? Nice proceeds at event times for sure!
It's because players still have to stick to the 2d client for various reasons. We all know them.
The reason why i say this is that programming wise: updating the 2d client with amazing new events is near to impossible, you won't see any new cool stuff within the 2d client because the quellcode is a total mess. I have played arround with the client in the past, it's seriously a mess. The last event was optimized for 2d only because most still have to use the 2d client. For KR was no optimizing needed, they just added the stuff with probably an cool editor and it was done :p
Here is where KR would shine, as soon the perfomance issues are fixed (if they ever get fixed) you will see much better new content and events.
KR has a complete new structure and makes it easier to add new content/more detailed events or simply just new features.
Re: I think we scared them away....
As far as I'm concerned, "content" is not purely about items. It's about depth of story, relevance of player actions to the world their characters are in, and a point to what we do in-game.
Sadly, for a lot of folks' "content" seems to mean "look, I've a pile of shiny new stuff to wear, kill things with, decorate houses, fill up storage space, and forget about as soon as a new shiny toy comes along".
You can create what I'm looking for in 2d.
yes, but you can create it much faster, better and more detailed in KR + new features you wouldn't even think of currently.
And this is the point why i say KR has to be successful or UO will die completly. Of course, KR for now is not rdy and the devs are slacking (for whatever reason, we don't know, there is total silence), so i just hope the best, otherwise you can say bye to both, 2d and KR.
I absolutely agree.As I posted else where this story line with the Shadow Lords could of been the prelude to a HUGE ongoing event which didnt need any new content other than using UO Lore.
I actually understand what you were saying though Himmelweiss [tech talk usually flies right over my head] and I have to say your explanation helped me see why maybe so much has come to a stand still.
SA was meant to be released for those using the KR client, which I am now almost 100% sure the devs beleived we would all of switched to by now.
Obviously due to the fact that SO many of the playerbase still cannot use it confidently has caused a huge glitch to EA's plans.
