I must admit I didn't particularly like the idea of many of the new additions to UO as it is, but I have tried MANY different free shards all boasting very good copies of era's I enjoyed. Although the game played to a point where I was happy, and I was quickly able to rebuild my characters to the same spec as my old Europa character, something was still missing.
Eventually it clicked, the reason why I was so drawn into MMO's, the community. No community feeling was ever better that UO's. None of the freeshards managed to get enough players to fill all the towns and get all the dungeons active, like how I remember.
I now believe that element of the game is actually far far far more important than the 'rulesets' or bright colours etc. I was quite willing to play with all the new additions, IF the world was still filled to the brim with people. Sadly this does not seem the case, in fact the banks look alot emptier than some of the more popular free shards!.
Its not been all bad though! my little adventure has brought back many happy memories, and I even managed to find a few old screenshots from 'back in the day'

I will still hang around this forum though and keep track of whats going on, maybe something will peak my interest
