Footwear optional?

Is there any reason whatsoever to wear shoes of any kind except for looks?

Other than Vine Cord sandals, Pads of the Cu Sidhe, or Arcane Thigh Boots... None.

Other than upping an insurance bill or having to buy a CBD? Not to my knowledge. same thing with robes for the most part too...just aesthetics.

What are the Vine Cord Sandals tho?

vine cord sandals are a pair of sandals that have resists on them. very expensive and they have been duped, so who knows how many are put there among the shards.

There are also those sollerettes (?sp) which also have resist and are blessed. They're part of the virtue armour set. I personally like my AoS footwear.

For robes just keep a deathrobe as a robe and color it. It will remain with you upon death.
Also there are the old newbied cloth items. I still have a bag with a lot of them. My chars usually wear old newbied ranger boots

I personally don't like Sollerettes, they look fat

Yes but those (Solaretes of Sacrifice) have just been recently added to the game (sept 07) and they are only good if you have the complete set of virtue armor

vine cord sandals were an em item that has been duped numerous times and you could use a cbd on them. they added to all 5 resists which helped when building your suit.

there was/is a picture of the here somewhere

This brings up an interesting thought: should there be a reason to wear footwear, or a penalty for not doing so?

For instance, walking in a desert barefoot would most likely be a somewhat burning experience... even more so one should lose hp in snowy regions without proper shoes/boots (this was actually implemented in U7 part II already, going to the snowy mountains without a fur hat and boots would cause rapid hp loss).

Having a reason to wear footwear would be a small boost to tailors as well, assuming exceptionally made footwear would be more effective than store-bought rubbish.

On the flipside, folks may not want yet another thing to worry about item-wise...
