Re: Selling your goods..

But by the same argument, if someone offers 500k on an item worth ~1 million, they are trying to pay less than the item is worth, also an act of greed. Either is hardly true.

I find that with hard amounts "I want X" tend to end negotiations before they get interesting. Either the person has it or he moves on without even discussing with me whether I may go lower or not.

Also, can you honestly say you know the price of everything on the shard? If I give you ten items, you can tell me the highs, lows, and most frequent prices? If you can do that, that's impressive. I have to use various websites to keep up.

There have been items where I've had the person make me an offer since there is no way to get any clear idea what the value is (houses, weapons with lots of properties, etc). Sure the person has a price they won't go below, but that's like a minimum or reserve in an auction. Is the seller supposed to take a lower amount just so the buyer can get a deal? The seller doesn't owe the buyer anything, and buyers who expect sellers to sell their work and time short are just as greedy as sellers who overcharge.

Commerce is an interesting part of the game. I enjoy the thrill of selling things, even when I could make more money junking the item and just killing a few more monsters. As long as the seller is honest (not scamming or selling "fake" rares), I really don't like the idea of simply writing people off as greedy. It is possible to have friendly commerce without one person giving everything away. I don't "buy" my friends in real life, and I'm not going to do it in game.
