[Discussiion] Just wondering...

what impression has the past week given you about the Devs?...

Dermott of LS asked our view on the

...

After quite a long silence both on the boards and in terms of action in publishes, patches, and other types of action, a lot of the playerbase seemed quite down on the Devs. Even I was quite antsy at the need to at least know that something was happening, and of course the Doom and Gloom crowd was there to throw in their "UO is on life support" into the mix.

So the question is:

What is your impression of the actions of the devs over the past week, and has it changed from the previous weeks of inaction?

Some of the responses on Stratics were as follows.

Uriah Heep said

Draconi did good

I feel for Chrissay(Adida) and the rude peeps she is dealing with.

Everything else, is same ole same ole ho-hum drifting along aimlessly, it seems.

Mechanic had this to say

I completely missed out on the one time only 5 minute event, so I am still feeling the game is lacking some live content, getting very stale, still wondering about the event arc beyond all comprehension(yea right).

I am looking forward to the cross shard Atlantic factions crazyness(if it ever happens) but that is player made , so the Devs = meh

while loqucios thinks

My confidence is returning. I guess the truth is that we have a small game with a small group of devs that are being asked to perform miracles. Yes there are a lost of issues that need attending to, but I don't think UO has the finances or backing to bring in more devs, so the ones we have are probably asked to do more than would normally be asked of a dev. If this is true I guess I should also back off my negative comments for fear that the devs we have, who are probably working their butts off, may not be able to handle the pressure and quit, leaving us with another set of new devs and another time setback with regards to upkeep and development. I love this game and I just want what is best for it.

Mystic of Cats had far more to say

I'm extremely disappointed in Mythic thus far. Nothing really has changed except the name. It's still the same stuff going on as there has been the past few years. No information given, no real content coming, lots of empty words. We don't even know exactly how many people are working solely on UO anymore. Plus, with WHO coming out soon, where are their priorities going to lie? With a 10 year old broken down and busted game with little to no future, or a new game with new content and new player base? The only thing keeping UO alive anymore are people who are holding on to memories and nostalgia, people who are dead set on making what little rl money there is to make from those people from all the stock they have collected over 10 years, and the people who treat UO like a medieval Sims Online game.

So Mythic does what EA has done the past few years. They make small little updates which are made out to be earth shattering news, give everyone new pixels which are actually just renamed, re-hued old graphics to make them fluffy to all the pixel crack heads go nuts over them, blow up a house on each shard of someone who has been a long time known cheater as a scare tactic when nothing will be done again for another 2 years just like the last time...

If Mythic was truly interested in moving forward with this game, it would show. Major announcements would me made, patches would be coming out at least weekly for old problems which would be easy fixes, it would be like UO was a brand new game just released to public. And regardless of how many people think that a lot of the fixes take time to change in the code, there are a million small things that could be done at the same time. There would also be more involvement by the team other than the posting a few times a day on a forum.

We've seen very little interest by Mythic in any of these areas, and who can really blame them? Mythic has been working on WHO for how long now? Only to have EA thrust the responsibility on them to take care of a 10 year old busted and broken game that they probably don't want to deal with in the first place. The bottom line is that if UO is to survive, they need to give the game over to people who actually want to deal with it.

While Jirel_of_Joiry summed it up in short as

Same Stuff....different day.

Even a dev had some thing to say about the topic

From my perspective, I'm really liking the things I'm seeing. The really good thing is, we've got great people in key positions, as a matter of fact, all the leads are devs from before the move - well except for art - but he's a really great guy too and I think UO is lucky to have him.

With everything that's been going on, I've been amazed at how much the Dev team has been able to accomplish.

On that note, here's a video dedicated to UO ...

- oh, I get to be the guy in white!

All I can say is, I'm glad I quit when I did. Or, maybe a little sad I didn't do it earlier.

Agree with Dip.

They are not.. Its not their game. This person that wrote about Mythic in the whole post got no clue.
EA bought Mythic.. EA sets Mythic people to work on UO toghter with old UO people.

Mythic never wanted to "save" uo.. They had other plans. But of course if their bosses also say.. help on this see if we can press out some extra pennies.. sure they will do that.

I also want the Devs to be harder... Dont please everyone!
