All Depends on the lecturer in my opinion. For example, physical demonstrations could be used to add a little more than just reading text. As well as sharing my Knowledge of Poisons, their uses and how to counter them, i could give a lecture on 101 ways to kill an Elf (although the stage may be a little messy for the next lecturer)

Imo this is good for IC information... But then again 75% of the people these days use their UO OOC knowledge and put that into their chars... Now thats what i call boring.

Okay so we will not invite Hedie to the party. His company will be missed. I would like to go ahead and try to create Lectures twice a month. It can be on any topic that the community would like to talk about or engage in, perhaps our first lecture could be: The Modern Sociopath and His Views of Self Superiority. Just something to toss out there.

So first topic can be discussed if you drop me a Private Message I will try to get back to you as soon as possible. A History of some of the newer rp places would be somewhat cool too. I will plan for the second week in March for the first lecture Week of March 10-16.

But then I'll be forced to attend.

mmhm it was never about just reading out loud, Umbra especially was based on the mentor + apprentice relationship. Some of that was put to use for the University when it was held but it wasn't always successful. Aryala was very creative with her work, I on the other hand had issues thinking outside the box due to other matters filling my head.

I think it's great that you want to try to hold these again, they could be quite fun if the person holding it was creative. Sometimes we used to go outside or use other structures to hold our lectures. The whole concept of Umbra was to teach, well the first concept that Saktoth did was more based around his Orcs and the SC method but after that we built the guild around the whole idea of passing on knowledge to other players IC.

As for Umbra, we didn't really just step out of the door for a breather. I think a lot of people don't realise this but Umbra disbanded. If you haven't noticed the Umbra University collapsed and the guild isn't around anymore. I think Aryala is the only one that actually plays.

Best of luck with the lectures though, I'm sure if you put your mind to it. You'll see some interesting results

So I stop reading these boards for a while and immediately, people start talking about me behind my back? And even worse, some of you -enjoyed- our lectures? You weren't meant to! Umbra meant to make you suffer!!

The lectures were fun, really. My personal favourite would still be the Montor expedition in which we got us all killed trying to do RP in the midst of succubi and balrons. Great memories of wandering about on a non-fighting character talking at length about Ilshen's tower and one-time-residence while at the back of the crows people were chewed to bits by dragons. And not to forget the exhibition afterwards in which I annoyed Callum by constantly claiming that the riddle which nobody ever got was really, really easy to solve. And it was! Seriously. You were all just oafs

Hmm, so since then I actually thought about doing them again... but I sort of lacked a nice location and all that. Maybe I'll do one again now, just because someone said they had fun... *thinks*


P.S. I can't stand a lot of things. Like red beet. That does not mean I have to share my sentinent with everybody that does...

Umbra was one of the best RP guilds ever - for some reason people assumed they were "evil" by "tag" reading and made 10000000000011101111111111 assumptions about them IC and OOC. Oh and no one really wanted to work with them except for a few guilds such as SCT and some individuals.

Bring back the lectures and I will be there in game in UO for the first time in months.
