I don't think I have ever sold anything for near it's market value. I have the same philosophy as you. Pay it forward. A couple of very nice people helped me out the first night I was in game, and it made a huge impact on me. One asked me to just "help someone when you can", and the other became my guild leader.
This isn't to say I don't covet some of the finer things in the game, but I am not about to rip someone off to be able to afford them. Nor am I going to berate someone else in-game for just about anything. The game is an escape, and a fun one at that. Why get into someone else's face over something that won't impact you in the least?
