Oops I posted in the wrong section :(

Never been in the High Council ...
I've been trying to figure out which side my char should belong to in this "conflict", since she's always been on the side of the law. This scenario doesn't really have "good guys" and "bad guys". I'm not sure what the conflict would be about. If the Magincians don't like the conditions in Trinsic, which have been provided out of charity, logic dictates that they would go somewhere else, not start a war. I'm a bit confused.
As to events, I was reminiscing about some of the activities in previous years. Weddings used to be hugely popular, I've even been to an all "red" wedding. Same with bachelor/bachelorette auctions, bardic and archery contests, scavenger hunts. Fashion contest? There was a chess game using the giant chess board in Nujel'm, with people as the chess pieces. (no, I won't volunteer to stand on a chessboard for hours and hours...)
The guard murder scenario type of short event might be the best idea to move the story along. I got to the Keg late, and a guy whose name I've forgotten told me where everyone was, and said it was kind of a fun dinner theater thing, and led me to the building where everyone had moved off to.
When everyone is out and about, it might be a good idea to drop off books with the www.uoforums.com addy, I didn't even know that this board existed.
Happy hunting

Re: Oops I posted in the wrong section :(

All of this information is OOC since not everyone knows it in game.

The Magincians and Trinsic locals aren't good or bad as a block. Most of them are good or bad as individuals. Under normal circumstances, the Magincians would probably grumble about the struggles of being a refugee, and the local Trinsic people would grumble about the freeloading refugees, and not much else would happen. However a few "other" parties are interested in getting the two sides to do more than grumble. Shadow is trying to push the Magincians through propaganda and insiders, and VTC is trying to give everyone a weapon and push people into conflicts (for a variety of reason, one being simple profit). They are the "bad" guys of the scenario, though they are currently doing it in quiet and subtle ways. I expect this may change.

A simple outlet of the Magincians leaving would work if it were an option. The magic our characters use to get around isn't common to everyone (for example, everyday common people are escorted by more powerful people for a fee). The refugees who are forced into Trinsic aren't necessarily those who fought the demons invading their city; they are more likely the butcher, tailor, etc. They don't have the magic to just recall somewhere and were crated up on crowded ships and sent to the closest city (Trinsic).

As for the events, great ideas! I may get a chance to talk to you tomorrow about them at tavern night (depending on a few things). Also, thanks for the advice about forums. Since UOLS went down, it has been hard to keep in contact with people.

While Galen and I are only marginally involved in these events....I do have to say something I've said repeatedly at the OOC meetings.

To call this a scenario for archival purposes is fine.....

But, I don't think it's the best word we can use in terms of orientation, in terms of how we're thinking about these events.

I prefer to look at it as a situation, a situation that the characters need to deal with and react to.

Sometimes, stuff will happen (guard murder, attempted kidnapping that has nothing to do with Trinsic other than that it occurred there).

Sometimes, stuff will not happen.

If we think of it as a "scenario" too often, it becomes expected that it has a beginning, a middle, and an end.

Re: Oops I posted in the wrong section :(

Perhaps the the term "Milieu: the physical or social setting in which something occurs or develops" would be the best way of putting it.

Scenarios can be built within to react and build the Milieu. What you have is a way to interact and a base reason to interact and scenarios can be built out of that to either enhance or just operate on their own. That's pretty much how the Rebellion worked as there were smaller plots running within the greater reach of the Rebellion itself. While Grokken himself may not get directly involved, be assured that Grokken's Player will find a way to play..

Grokken brings up a good point. I think the current roleplay in Trinsic, no matter what it is called, is a great chance to play different, underappreciated characters. Though for those who are only comfortable with a particular character are of course welcome.

Re: Oops I posted in the wrong section :(

First of all please forgive my absence from the boards, been having pc probs and haven't been able to access these boards for whatever magical reason my system decided upon.
I felt I would address this thread first.

I would agree with both galen's player as well as Grokken on this issue.
I believe grokkens term "Milieu" best discribes the conditions that exsist.
Some of us have decided to plant our Chars in the city of Trinsic which is basically a stage and bring our various styles of rping into play.
Like Galens player points out if we think of it as a "scenario" the concept of a beginning, a middle and an end come into play.
As long as we play it as Trinsic is simply a living city with constantly changing situations (such is the nature of a city) with the everyday comings and goings of players there is always the potential for the individual scenarios to build.
By maintaining a stage of free style spur of the moment rping it allows for new players to jump in and not feel like they are missing pages of a script.
I suggest we continue to invest what time each of us can and just go about what feels right in the moment and allow for the events to evolve.
some of us may already have long term goals in mind and some of us may only be interested in a night of sitting quietly in the corner of the keg and watching what is going on.
Things have been happening and personally i am pleased that at least some of us want to interact and create situations that allows for spontanous involvement.
With patience who knows what may develop, was just a couple months ago Trinsic was a ghost town, we now have a small but active population and others are peeking in.
Personally I will take the slow growth that will last and spread then to try to just set the realm on fire for a month and then wonder what to do next.
If we do nothing more then wake up the next morning and say to ourselfs "well I'm not really sure what that was about but I had fun last night" then we have accomlished the basic reason that i think we play the game for.
I believe that often the fear of making mistakes keeps people from taking the risk of attempting something new.
Lets embrace our mistakes and swing at the ball again, you can't hit a homerun without stepping up to the plate.
