I havent played in about 2 years, and tried to install the cd on my laptop but it said Directx wasnt compatible with my operating system....(windows xp) . And it wont patch all the way. Is there something that i am not doing right? I purchased a gametime code from UO and i cant even log in and play, it says my password or account name is incorrect, when i know they arent. Anyway, does the directX problem or the patching have anything to do with not being able to log on?

Well, my answer was lost in the server move :-)
So, here it is again...

Launch a search on your computer for the file : dxdiag.exe
Run this program and look at the infos it gives you, you should see Directx 9.0c. If it's not the case, you'll have trouble playing UO.
You can download the webinstaller from Microsoft website :

If the patch session is not complete, you cannot log in, as regularly the encryption of the communication is changed.
Test your login/password on the Account management website :

I don't know if your client is older than UO:Gold, but then you might want to download a new client from FilePlanet. You can follow instructions on downloading from FilePlanet on our website here :

Welcome to UO Forums Born2bblonde. Paidric just about covered it there. Theres a quick way to see which version of Directx and thats to go to START-> RUN and type dxdiag.

first off thanks for the info. I checked a couple of things and i am running directx 9.0. Checked the account name and password on UO.com and it is correct, I am still not able to patch or log in.....just wasting days from the gametime code now....

Are you using the CD or did you download? I know I had to uninstall everything of UO and then download it from a site. Whatever was on the CD and had been updated with the patches just stopped running completely. This is just a suggestion from my own lil experience, of course. I'm no expert, nor do I play one in game even.

Hello again, you say Directx 9.0 but is it the C subversion? 9.0c ?

Also as stated Cymbria, you might need to download UO Gold (follow the link I gave you).

If it wont patch all the way go to your patch directory and delete the files that are in there and try patching again.

yes it is the C version of directx, and i am trying to install from a CD.

Have you tried contacting EA yet? I would try to, it might be a shot in the dark, but hopefully they'd see you haven't logged in and refund you some days.

Try downloading UOGold or KR to see if it works better.
