a farmer is born!

So in keeping up with my crafting skills I went to the shire yesterday and began farming With one stack of longbottom leaf seeds I was able to become an apprentice farmer and made 52 charges of longbottom leaf which of course I promptly smoked 2 charges up. My question is : Is there a use to smoking other than the graphics? As I get higher in lvl will different leaves give any benefits or is it just a part of the game there just for fun? Is farming good for anything other than providing cooks with resources? And if so what ae the most sought after resources by cooks?

p.s sorry if I sound noob (cause I am). And sorry if this has been answered somewhere else cause I dont have time to search all over for it

Re: a farmer is born!

To my knowledge (I don't farm--too much dirt gets under your fingernails--bleh), pipeweed is purely used for the pleasures of smoking it. With the exception of Shire Sweetleaf, which we lore-masters use for reviving the defeated, I believe all varieties are pretty much the same. Perhaps a hobbit wil correct me if I am wrong.

Re: a farmer is born!

I'm pretty sure you are correct Eowyna.
I just hit master farmer however I've never grown any pipeweed because I read some stuff on it that it was pretty much useless except for people using it for rp purposes and of course the shire sweetleaf.

I'm still trying to figure out the market for farmers, what's useful, what sells well, what do people need? So far my observations are farm green onions, sell the skins at AH and then sell the green onions to an npc, I'm sure every server is different but I can sell 1 skin for about 20s, not a lot but at least you make some of the money back you used for farming heh. which server are you on btw?

Taters used to be a good item to grow and sell because they are needed for so many cooks recipes but as far as I can tell everyone is doing it now so there's no point.
Straw used to be a great item to sell but yet again everyone started doing that also.

Basically I think the best bet is going to be sell things at ah like onion skins, juicy blackberries and other things that you only have a so much % of a chance of getting... supply cooks in your kinship w/ foodage...find some repeat customers and do custom orders... and for common things like vegies, pipeweed, and such, try using the trade channel rather than ah...you don't have to pay a fee and from what I've seen it's much easier to sell more common things on the trade channel than it is at ah... I myself just sell the common vegies like green onions to an npc.

I'm trying to figure this all out still too but hope this helped a little.

Oh one more tip, go to ah often and keep an eye on things, it's a great way to see what's selling there and for how much, if it's worth the cost of farming it, ect...

Re: a farmer is born!

Well that's the truth...and exactly why I'll be working on tailoring soon
But I do enjoy my farming, mostly because I grow stuff for myself to cook with. I loves me some yummeh food!

That reminds me, Merth are you a historian, woodsman or yeoman?

Re: a farmer is born!

I spent 9gps on a crafted cloak, 8gp for a piece of armor, 9gp for a weapon.... regardless what game I play... I get ganked in the coin purse by crafters.
