This is the OOC planning for PaxOku City. In the past we have always focused on events to bring people to our city. Most of the time we get people that destablize the city or dont RP at all or just become a problem.
Our new solution is to look for Roleplayers but not just human roleplayers. We are looking for different races. Elf, Human, Orc, Gargoyal, Changlings and more. Along with subraces Drow (Touchy dubject for most Drow), Undead and I cant think of more off the top of my head but they are there. So my own idea is for the Blue Light Tavern to host events that follow a certain race or subrace in activites. Something to draw in for example the Drow or Vampyers. I do not have a set time for this or day but will soon. I also want to post on other forums even if we can jsut find one different Rper that plays a certain race it is one more then we have had. Also to visit other shards and see if we can attract some to create players on our shard inside of our city. We have also taken steps to create new areas within Kijustsu Anei for the Sub-races. So that is what I am working on and others have ideas and will be posting. So lets try to keep the communication going on the forums so we can comment and help eachother with our ideas. ~Gareth |

Re: (OOC) Attracting New Races/Subraces to the city
This is a great idea, Gareth. How will this mesh with the current events in the city, or is this the ultimate culmination of those events?

This is a great idea, what we want to create is more races on Chessy, there are other shards where Drow, Elf, Vampyre, Orc and such are dieing off and we want to have somehwere they can go. A Community where all are welcome and RP can spawn spontaneously

Re: (OOC) Attracting New Races/Subraces to the city
I have taken much time thinking on this response before posting it. It is to express my point of view and opinion as well as hopes, not to harm anyone or their feelings.
What I would like to see more of is variety and respect for the individuality and differences of others in PaxOku. I like to role play. My definition of role play is that each character have their own personality and is true to herself consistently. What one character likes, another may totally dislike. Role play, when done well, should come to where it imitates real life as closely as possible, yet with a twist, to keep things in the fantasy, fictional arena. Someone else may have a different definition, and they're welcome to that and I will try to understand their perspective, however I will most likely hold to my own. (Yes, I'm stubborn.) I will not try to change theirs, but likewise, they should respect and not try to change mine. I would like to see the spontaneity of people coming together in one place. But I do not feel it right or fair to force what I want on others. Yes, roleplaying can be taught, however, only if the player desires to learn it. Should those who come into town for an event or just observe be turned away or discouraged because PaxOku is a "roleplaying town?" I certainly hope not! Likewise, if someone starts a scenerio or plotline, it should follow to its own ending. Someone attempting to join in later, should not be ignored because their participating would mean that would be rerouting it a bit to include the individual. If there is a preconceived ending to a scenario, then I see it as more of a play, with each their own rolls, and newcomers as observers or an audience. It tends to be exclusive, rather inclusive. I'm writing a play now, but it will be performed as such, I hope. What I like to do before even logging in is set goals for each character. Whatever happens during that day though, can change based on the needs of others. That includes sometimes the person who has only an hour and wishes to talk to a friend OOC. Should that mean that I go to complete (whatever goal) I had set that day or remain in character? If I am that friend, I shall choose to go to a private area, which may still be in town, but not on the street, and talk to them. But that is me and my choice; someone else is welcome to choose otherwise. *shrugs* I enjoy events, whether there is a storyline behind them or not. Net tosses and treasure hunts as well as exploring dungeons in a group is fun to me. But, that is my enjoyment, and may not be someone else's. I hope to see more people who enjoy the same as I do gathering at Blue Swan Landing or PaxOku itself before and afterwards. I would like to see more of a turn out for these events when sponsored from new and different people as well as those who regularly participate! I hope to meet more Elvin, Drow, Necromancers, Paladins, Nobles from Magincia and Peasants from Yew. I will tolerate and respect vampyres, orcs and folks from NY. In the end, I hope that the player who logsout at the end of their day, thinks of PaxOku as a good and welcoming place. Thank you for reading my comments and have a good day!

Re: (OOC) Attracting New Races/Subraces to the city
Greetings Lady Hester Tarian,
I just wanted to say I find your post to be one of the most well thought-out, well-written posts I have had the pleasure of reading in sometime. I share many of the same opinions as you do, but I doubt I could ever state them half as elequently as you have! Respectfully, -Havok

Darn part elves again... :-P
Lady Hester. I figured I would break down your message and give you some clarity. When you said "variety and respect for the individuality and differences of others in PaxOku." I do not believe since we have started these changes in PaxOku since we took on kijustsu Anei they we have shown anything but respect for all that come to the city. "My definition of role play is " Everyone has their own definition of role play and we (PaxOku) will not push any RP style or treat anyone less because we do not hold a definition of RP and never will. Everyone is different and we must not only respect but understand others views. I have not seen anyone in PaxOku try to change peoples views on RP. Hence the Open Door Policy and the abolishment of citizen applications. "Should those who come into town for an event or just observe be turned away or discouraged because PaxOku is a "roleplaying town?" " No one has been turned away from PaxOku. Rper and Non Rpers alike are welcome to PaxOku city. Nor did PaxOku ever say it is a roleplaying town only. Hence again The Open Door Policy. "Likewise, if someone starts a scenerio or plotline, it should follow to its own ending." PaxOku city nor any involved in PaxOku should ever tell a Quest Master how to run their own events. Again PaxOku is also an open door policy to Quest masters as long as they do not destabilize someone els's Quest or undermine Lore created in PaxOku. Some may not find that an open door quest policy but should Lord Havok say Lady Serina has died and her spirit lost forever.. then Winfield walks in with a fishing pole and says I have fished up the Spirit of Serina. 1. Thats just rude to do to any quest master. 2. That would create a major problem that I dont have time nor anyone else have time to deal with. "If I am that friend, I shall choose to go to a private area, which may still be in town, but not on the street, and talk to them. But that is me and my choice; someone else is welcome to choose otherwise. *shrugs* " Again PaxOku will never tell anyone how they can talk in the streets of PaxOku city. We are not the Rp police and anyone can break character if they wish. Thou you and I may find that annoying and not the best RP that is their RP and it should be respected. |

Re: (OOC) Attracting New Races/Subraces to the city
I feel, respectfully, that the original post needed clarity since it started to attract other races and more of a RP aspect. I feel that all should be welcomed, as your most recent post has clarified. Yes, bring in those who choose to RP other races, as well as the human, of which I am one! I can stand on my own two feet and be in the minority....I tend to be used to it even. *grins*
The ONLY people I do not encourage to come to PaxOku are those who enjoy lying OOC, deceiving OOC, and just plain enjoy making others miserable. They are totally selfish and totally disrespectful and I for one will not be bothered with such ophidian slime. Gratefully I find these types of individuals to be in the minority as well, but I have encountered them before and know, unfortunately, I shall again someday.

Re: (OOC) Attracting New Races/Subraces to the city
Often when I read or respond to posts I suffer from tunnel vision, over focusing on one post in a thread.
It has been sometime since I have been able to peruse Chessy's many forums and when I came upon Lady Tarian's post it struck a chord with me. I hope my post was note taken as a slight to any of the others who have posted on this thread, especially the original poster. I simply wished to convey my respect for, what I thought was a well written post, and acknowledge that we seem to share many of the same views. I think the endevor to draw out other types of rp'ers, and by this I mean vampires, orcs, etc...and also the idea of drawing them from other shards where rp'ing may be on the decline is a excellent idea. I wish you the best of luck in your endevor, and if I may assist you in any way please do not hesitate to ask. Respectfully,

Re: (OOC) Attracting New Races/Subraces to the city
I confess i did not read everything, though Hester's opinions are well respected by me and others, i agree wiht her on some but not all.
I think that Roleplaying too much like real life will hurt some who want the escape that Role Play gives (though let me know if i misunderstood....). But just off the top of my head, it would be hard to RP a vampyre (and keep it close to RL) especially since everyone views vampyres in a different way. So in that i agee with Merrik, we all have our different ways of RP'ing, some more rigid than others. Some are in char 100% - great example is some ppl say "q me" and others say "send me a pigeon". There are some in any town that if i say "q me" they act confused and will not respond... It is my hope and something that i have been working on to try to lure other races and such to our city and shard even. Though to be honest it is bigger than that, i wish to just rejuvenate and have more of those races Everywhere! I miss the days of walking to an inn or tavern and there being not just humans discussing politics but vampyre and drow and such discussing culture or even speaking in their own tongue! We have some wonderful RP'rs now, it is my hope that some of you even will branch out and perhaps explore other races as well... Aluve' Ssinssriggin Jabbress
