Re: KR busted my hard drive!!!!!!!!

Raid setup's are fast, but to me, unless you're going RAID 0/1, it isn't worth it. The speed isn't really noticeable in most realistic situations that people commonly do, though things like video encoding and such are uber fast with it. Also, the higher risks associated with drive failure in a straight RAID 0 configuration offset the speed advantage. Unless, as you said, you go the RAID 0/1, I would get a good 16Mb cache hard drive and be done with it. Reliability will be improved and risk is reduced. JMO.

Hiya Merth Dude, I had exactly the same thing happen to me... and I too, thought it was the controller, but guess what?...

It was actually piss poor cables...

When a computer is turned on/off, that heating/cooling action, will cause the cable to "walk" right out of its socket... Believe it or not, but it happens...

The new cable technoledgy for SATA drives, has now got a locking mechanism to combat this... But cheap cables are still available too... so be carefull what you buy...

and I was going to sugest to Grizz Dude, that if your computer is Busted, then open that babe up and look inside... maybe the problem is a simple cable has come off... couldn't hurt to try... since it Busted anyways...

and Ya JFK, I work with video files and 1hrs worth of DvD quality is about 2 gigs of drive space... until its burned onto a disc, for storage...

Re: KR busted my hard drive!!!!!!!!

Super Cool Update.................
Bought a new machine yesterday. Only problem is, I couldn't find my latest UO install disks, so I had to install my AoS disk. Ithink I have some patching to do today..................hehe.
Oh well, at least I'll be back in action shortly. Thanks for all your support here. Unfortunately, most of what you guys said is Chinese to me. But thanks nonetheless.
