I just read the post about Christmas gifts and how they have changed over the years.

How many of you remember when Ranger Armor first showed up in-game? It was cool, it was green, it was worth wearing. Now? Hell you can’t even sell it on a vendor.
I guess I’m just bitter. What ever happened to all the cool stuff from when we started? I have a complete full set of plate of invulnerability that I keep locked down at the house, just to look at and fret. Sure my paladin has got a set of all 70s with all kinds of other great properties, but… Well it ain’t the same.
I guess I’m just bitter. Do you remember the first house you placed? I placed a small stone house by the mountains near Minoc and was as happy as a pig in mud (despite my PK tamer next door neighbor who used me as dragon bait pretty much every day) Now, if you don’t have a 18x18 or better “yer a noob”.
I guess I’m just bitter. What happened to the raw taste of copper you got when you saw the words “you have been poisoned”? Now my assassin goes out with a DP kryss and gets PaWnD by some kid with a super scripted “cure/heal/call in Specter Gunship105mm”.

But did you ever wear that full set of invaun armour or carry that vanq silver sword for everyday use.

I know i certainly didnt except when hunting as in them days before insurence you just knew you would get knocked and lose it all.

The very first item i lost to a thief was a vanq broadsword.

Times change......not all for the good but not all for the bad.

Remembering a few things from my early yrs.....
5 WW's for pvm meant i could camp spawn all day without even hardly having to heal.
Mages by far were the most powerful template
Regs were rarer, you could make a fortune selling them, i know my other half Cherry in game made a fortune from her vendor at Yew Moongate.

The one thing i would remove from UO............insurence. Replace it with the old item bless deed, allow each character to have blessed 3-4 items max, or limit the amount of items you can have insured on one character.

I still enjoy UO thats why i am still here as do many others.

The set I have locked down at the house is the second set I owned, due to a very very very poor decision on my part to go hunting alone. And yes, I also lost a vanq sword that day.

Ya know though; as mad as I was that day (mostly at myself) I still felt more "alive". Four PKs jumped me, at half health, in Despise, I got 2 of the bastards, but...

I am not a PvP guy at all anymore, but I think that EA could solve the inflation issue in UO by doing away with insurance. Make GM Armor worth something again.
I just did a house cleaning and threw away the suit of armor (type) that I used for nearly two years. I had a set of studded armor that I slew dragons with...

I dont know about insurance. Its a daft idea. So are lootable bodies. Why cant you die and then rez with all your stuff?
Isnt it punishment enough you have to run miles to find a healer and rez?
Forget insurance and lets just rez with all our stuff- the only ppl who wouldnt benefit from this are the pk's. And we know how many problems they cause

Ya know, I might be the old school thinker here (not that I think well or often), but I remember my dear old dad telling me that quitters never win and winners never quit...
Of course that may be the 22 Year old scotch I'm drinking right now as well...

I just realized that this was put into a bottle when I was 20... wow, just wow...

I'm ver against insurance...
Made crafters worthless, and the game not exciting...

Also, the item properties screwd a lot with the value you give things...
Before them, every single item you bought from NPCs were equal...
Lost a chainmail suit? Get another one.

There were only poor quality, normal quality and exceptional quality. Losing an exceptional wasn't much to worry about. It sucked, but find a player vendor and done
And then there were the special items, the titled weapons and armor.. and you would cherish that, more than your own life... Wear it only on a few special ocasions.

Now, you're too damn afraid to lose any armor, because it all feels special, and any single loot will bring a piece of armor better than those at the npcs... so losing an armor really means destroying the character, and it's strategy.

Lets say your template is a Ninja, like mine... and you get to legendary ninja using a ewel set like mine (+11 Ninjitsu)
Then you lose the ring and bracelet... yeah, your character is screwed.
You planned for months to get that template, and instead of being an unique character, it is a life support system to an armor.

UO is skill based, my dear devs... Skill based, not Item based

yepper thats the ticket!! Now if we could only get the powers that make decisions to realize it ....
