DESERTIONS BEGIN IN STONEKEEP!

Consciences in the militia have apparently begun to be challenged. As Yew's rebel faction continue to pepper the defenders of the Avatari and Lord Protectorate with assaults of both arrow and guilt. While violence has quietened the last two nights in Yewtown, a more drastic turn of events was triggered last night as a rookie waywatcher assaulted Captain Dart before fleeing the Stonekeep garrison.

A warrant has since been made public for her arrest and Ms. Brown has been branded a deserter by her superiors. Eyewitnesses at the time were confused by the woman's outbursts and claim a string of personal attacks from her gruff officer prompted the reportedly out of character violent outburst.

Breaking news from Stonekeep, however, suggests that Annwyn's actions may have been politically motivated as the young archer made her presence felt in the garrison, shouting for militia wrongs against Celts to be answered for and mowing down a poor trainee with a barrage of crossbow bolts.

Opinion of the recent uprising is likely as mixed within the Militia as it is within the town itself and amidst rumours this week of a partition in Yew, this young waywatcher's actions will make the rebellion's impact on our guardsmen all the more interesting as the week continues!

FREE YEW DECLARED! YEWTOWN PARTITIONED!

In possibly the most dramatic evening of the rising so far, rebels declaring themselves the "Free Yew Volunteers" secured a segment of Yewtown with palisades and blockade walls stretching off from Yew Mill. The heavily rebel-sympathising populous of the North of our township aided the construction of the partition and several houses stand within the space of 'Free Yew'.

This bold, extreme course of action prompted a predictably violent response from the local militia who came to shut down the small band of volunteers. Likely expecting minimal resistance from the unprofessional paramilitants, a scouting party of complacent guardsmen was repelled from the wooden walls with a volley of bow fire after a short exchange of words.

The Guardsmen soon returned on mass and seemed to have found an empty segment of wall by Mill Corner, but the rapparee band sprung from their ambush and pelted the the Lord Protector's men with projectiles and incendiary devices. The militia were eventually expelled and a banner was flown outside the newly announced "Free Yew town hall" by the confident troupe. This night, bonfires and singing are no rare sight behind the palisade walls but the Guardsmen militia, nor the Loyalist civilians of Yewtown are likely to be pleased by the day's events and the "FYV" are likely preparing for further offensives.

News, we understand, is yet to reach Lord D'Gar or his son, Baron of Deepwood, but this represents a bold and rash move from the so-called Volunteer force, whose leader surely tests his luck as they settle down for their longest night to date.

This reporter understands the search is underway to find a "Minister" of Free Yew, an elected official to govern the miniature township.

CASUALTIES MOUNT AS 'FREE YEW' BARELY HOLDS!

The Guardsmen Militia's second venture to the palisade walls of Free Yew was, last night, only just repelled as escalated violence brought heavy casualties to both sides. The Militia, lead by Srg. Garren Vance arrived at an unmanned segment of Free Yew's palisade and broke their way through. Worried civilians withdrew to alert the local Volunteers, as Vance and his company set about to reclaim the taken neighborhood. Setting about a command point, the guardsman's force split into patrols and initial rebel attacks were easily beaten back by the alert professionals.

As Baron D'Gar joined the defensive at Free Yew's boarder, it became increasingly clear as the violence rumbled on that the rebels would not relent and slowly guardsmen casualties began to mount. With the militia defense pulled well out of shape, the rebels peppered the broken guardsmen and small pockets of Volunteers began to ambush and set upon smaller, lost units of straggling guardsmen. Pulled out of shape and faster taking losses, the Militia were eventually forced to withdraw - but not before setting fear and pain a shudder through the rioting community of 'Free Yew.'

The Volunteers pursued through Yewtown and as far as Stonekeep before returning to rebuild their battered palisade and contemplate their own frailty. For now, Free Yew holds again - though the Volunteers must fast be looking for outside aide if their stand is to last.

VOLUNTEERS OVERWHELMED AS FREE YEW FALLS!

Free Yew's defending Volunteers were last night outnumbered and overwhelmed by the might of the Guardsmen as the juvenile "state" was annexed promptly back into the lands of Lord D'Gar. The resistance was poorly supplied and lacked the training of their professional counterparts as the militia closed in on the palisade gate. It's third defense, it was a lucky time for the Guardsmen as they poured through the walls and beat back the rebel assistance. Vesperians from the rebel state's militia were out to enforce the Free Yew Volunteers, but they too were disbursed by the steel engine that brought bombs and bows through the gate.

A secondary force, stationed desperately outside the 'Town Hall' of Free Yew was then assaulted. Led by Hedlyn ap Rhyn, named leader of the FYV, the weakened defenders were quickly brought down by Captain Dart's guardsmen and it is believed the Volunteer's commander was dragged back to Stonekeep in chains for a likely execution.

Sympathisers of celt and Britannian birth alike scattered from the palisade as the occupying force set about bringing down the walls and this reporter, along with the rest of his town, awaits to see if this should be the end of the uprising - or merely another dose of fuel piled onto an ever growing fire.

HATRED RISES AS YEWTOWN TENSION MOUNTS!

Reports of brutality have buzzed noisily about the Yewish rumourmill since the collapse of "Free Yew" this Wednesday past. Increasing counts of violence have been reported as angry militants have continued their desperate campaign from an unknown location. Returning "underground", local Volunteers have harried the militia for several nights with vengeance raids and the Guardsmen have offered no hesitance in reacting in kind.

A trend set by the local militia as they left mark of their dominance upon the body of the Volunteer's escaped leader, the popular celtic figure has been spotted by eyewitnesses baring the scars and bruises of interrogation since his escape from the citadel.

Raiding bands of Volunteers are believed to have taken prisoners of their own, Waywatcher Young and Besieger Lumbard amongst those snatched from the garrison walls and whilst it is believed Young has since returned to his post, the senior besieger is still missing. "We shall return their savagery with that of our own", a Volunteer spokesman told this reporter. Though the beaten-back rebels must go some length to match the barbarism of their besieger counterparts, as one Corporal Stormberg reportedly arrested an elder gentleman from the streets of Yew this day past for the crime, a witness reports, of simply "being a celt." The second such of these incidents, it is believed the man - identified as one Kyle O'Rourke - a humble ratcatcher, parted Stonekeep with one finger less and many a broken rib for his "crime."

BUTCHERED BRITANNIAN BEHEADED BY YEW MILITIA!

Amidst militia attempts to demonise uprising rebels in Yewtown as supremacist celts, a shocking revelation today rocked our northern province. A woman of Britannian birth, a member of the local Volunteers, was today executed for - not only treason - but desertion. A former militia recruit known only to this reporter as 'Delta' was beheaded in Stonekeep near the tenth hour of this night. It is believed a failed attempt on the life of First Markswoman Ffion Derwyn saw the insurgent arrested and chained within the citadel cells.

Little is known of the deceased besides her ties with paramilitary rebels the 'Free Yew Volunteers'. As internal conflict and drama resonated this evening, loudly throughout the mighty Stonekeep garrison, reports of arrests within the besieger division add fresh curiosity to the day's events. A relief force of Vesperians and Volunteers amassed outside the citadel walls, but their lacking firepower failed to breach the stone walls of the great Yewish keep, despite inflicting losses on the defending guards.

The fight rumbled about Yew, though it is believed the rescuers turned up moments too late to stop the execution. Vesper suffered numerous casualties and the Volunteers were driven back to an unknown location, disbursing rapidly between the treeline once news of the execution reached the battlefield.

Militia cruelty took a vile turn, within the conflict, as one repugnant footman was believed to be seen branding the head of the executed rebel as a weapon in the fray. Reports of such militia savagery will surely sicken even the staunchest loyalists of our community, as Yewman strikes Yewman a deeply gutting, psychological blow.

PATROL LOST ON EAST ROAD! SUPPLIES SEIZED!

A Militia patrol escorting supplies for the loyalist reclamation of the fallen "Free Yew" was hit by a furious and merciless ambush as it passed through former Nihon last night. As the men of Lord D'Gar worked their way back to Stonekeep from Yew's east most outpost, the Volunteers of Free Yew descended upon them with cunning and a violence borne of hate.

Each man in gold and grey carrying a symbol of militia oppression was halted at the sight of a 'dead' footman sprawled face-down in the "King's" road. Eye witnesses report that rebels roared from their hiding places and spilled bloodily upon the unsuspecting guardsmen as conflict broke out.

The scenes of violence were described as quick and bloody as most of the patrol was beaten down where it stood. Supplies were stolen by rampant Volunteers though a trio of besiegers managed to flee their outnumbered enemy amidst the chaos and returned to Stonekeep with an equal share of the supplies as either mercy or caution halted the rebel pursuit.

A clear anger fueled the assault and the rebel's hatred for their foes was clear as the minimalist force overturned unfavourable odds to score a tactical victory. None the less, First Marksmen Ffion Derwyn likely consider her convoy a success as the parting heavy-men are believed to have secured enough of the crates to begin work in the broken "Free Yew" neighborhood with immediate effect.

GUARDSMEN CORPORAL MURDERED BY... GUARDSMEN?

A stunned audience sat in disbelief last night as trial defendant Lance Corporal Egrad Stormberg was dragged out, already deceased, before the awaiting court. Captain Bladius Dart presided over what followed, the trial turning on it's head as every man and women, civilian and guard, within the citadel walls was put to trial for his murder! This reporter sat dazed as the judgmental finger was pointed at even he!

It is believed that in the hours before his trial, Egrad Stormberg was executed at point blank range with several crossbow wounds. The Lance Corporal was standing trial amidst charges of treason and heavy rumours of heresy. The facts remain largely unknown to this civilian writer, as no evidence was presented before the court. None the less, Captain Dart was confident of Stormberg's guilt.

Rumours about the rebel community had long tied Egrad Stormberg with paramilitary movement the Free Yew Volunteers and their Commander, though no "spokesman" for the FYV was willing to offer comment on the trial. Nonetheless, no member of Yewtown's rebel quarter has ushered a word of claimed responsibility for the murder and cynics amidst the trial's audience were hasty to point the finger of blame at the disgraced Stormberg's own divisional master. Suggestions of a cover up were rife amidst the citadel and will likely not be dismissed should an investigation follow.

Amongst those others suspected were Waywatcher rookies Tyler James, Annwyn Lloyd Brown, Te'ani Lanoor and Timothy Young. Divisional mistress Floria Tenne was not available for comment though was clear in her concern as her force were implicated. Still, the arguments for the four were as fair as any other and eventually Captain Dart was forced to conclude that no verdict could be given.

MILITIA AND VOLUNTEERS UNITE TO FEED THE POOR!

Sort of..

Volunteer raiding on Stonekeep last night took a fruitful twist for the cold families of Yew this festive season. As early Avamas sentiment began to ebb into the rebel way, a rookie waywatcher was dragged from the garrison in the small hours by a trio of armed paramilitants. Ever conscious of public image, the witty gang escorted the fallen militiaman to the coast at crossbow-point and sat making conversation while a runner fled to town.

Returning with fishing poles, the watchman identified as one 'Lucius' was supplied with the means to fish and "encouraged" to begin doing so. After ample bellyaching the grumbling guardsman set to work and was soon pulling sizable fish from the Yewish waters. Apparently so warmed to the company of his captors, the rookie is believed to have eventually even donated his seasonal sweeties to the cause, offering up a gingerbread biscuit to families of fallen Free Yew.

As rebels returned towards Cedarwood with the taken catch, the waywatcher was sent unharmed back to his garrison with a polite word of thanks and - this reporter hopes - a warm glow in his heart! Numerous houses were visited across the town last night, a new fishmonger at their doors dropping by the evening's catch. Propaganda, the cynics will suggest, but a show of common decency we'd all like to hope.

FIRING SQUAD IN STONEKEEP! MILITIA SHOT!

Volunteers piled into Stonekeep, last night, en masse. Outnumbering and overwhelming the surprised guardsmen for the first time since their guerrilla war began, the militant rebels rushed the bewildered nightwatch and bundled them out to the garrison's edge. A footman and waywatcher were amongst those caught, and the pair were stripped of their Yewish uniforms and bundled against a nearby tree.

What followed confused onlookers, as the Volunteers began the latest in a series of unique, political demonstrations. Walling up the imprisoned militiamen in their own back yard, the rebels began constructing a makeshift prison out of sandbags and spare wood - and soon rookie waywatcher Annwyn Brown and an accompanying footman were well and truly at the hands of the Volunteer force.

As spent militiamen tried frantically to distract the steadfast Volunteers, the rallied garrison offered little but busy targets as the small, makeshift prison held firm for what seemed like an age in rebel hands. The quirky rapparees lectured the guardsman pair on their misdemeanors and branded they, the militia, traitors to the Yewish cause! "Liberating" the waywatcher and footman of their weapons the Volunteers proceeded to tax the guardsmen for their passage on "free Yew's roads" and insist that militia colours be dropped.

Resistance was offered by the plucky Brown and soon a heated debate was sparked. The rookie watcher, pointedly refusing to surrender her quiver of bolts back to 'the People' demanded that the Volunteers take them from her person by force or not at all, for she would not surrender them willingly. Such feistyness warmed little in the rebel hearts and soon the argumentative rookie was brought before a line of rebel marksman and stood before a tree.

Denying a final offer to surrender her ammunition and accept the charge of treason, Brown rudely turned her back on her would be aggressors and suffered a barrage of projectiles. This reporter understands she was later dragged away, severely injured but still alive. The same can not be said for her footman accomplice who foolishly chose to scrap with his captors. The disinterested Volunteers quickly shot him down and little is known of his current status, his body left still.

CHURCHMAN "JUDGED" ON CEDARWOOD PYRE!!

Shocking news from the village of Cedarwood as an Avatarian monk was yesterday executed by the Free Yew Volunteers. Lifted from outside the Yewish church last eve, the friar was escorted south to the village where local activists have been rumoured to have set up a haven for refugees of the fallen Free Yew. The bubbling cauldron of rebel activity was near literally set aflame this week as Lord Protector Klion D'Gar returned from his time in Britain to immediately set about assaulting his own "subjects." This reporter has never seen such queer a thing as the Lord of Yew charging upon a settlement of his own civilians, the Volunteers of Free Yew drawn out into the fray to fend off the assault. Both sides took casualties before the Lord Protector withdrew his men, no doubt claiming an overpowering victory.

But it was the capture of Brother Julius, a monk found responsible for the murderous burning of fair Mary O'Gara that sent a true ripple of awe about the quiet village. Paraded before the citizens of Cedarwood, the monk was dragged off into custody and was not seen for time. Reports of his capture and intended judgment quickly spread across the North, and pilgrims of all faiths came to witness the fate of the captured churchman with a feverish curiosity.

Soon a rowdy mob had descended upon the stake in Cedarwood Square and the Free Yew Volunteers dragged the chanting friar out and to his final stand. Shouting their accusations over the babble of the curious crowd, the captain of the Volunteers read his statement announcing Brother Julius a heretic, hypocrite and murderer of the innocent. Ignoring the charge, the Brother stood in defiant silence - his cruel, cold heart not capable of one shred of human emotion as the firing squad loaded it's bolts. A rumbling was heard as Yewish steel stormed down the western road, but far too late to stop the inevitable as the "Avatarian" monk was filled with wood and steel.

The Volunteers ignited the corpse and pyre in an act of symbolic retribution, as the spirit of Mary O'Gara was - perhaps - finally set to peace in the act of righteousness. As the Guardsmen descended upon the watching crowd, it was clear the feeling of anger and discontent inspired the observers and the Militia were forced to withdraw from the small, Yewish borough amongst scenes of raucous revolt.

The people of rebel intent may feel free to celebrate this perceived victory, but ignorance and recklessness has run rife in Cedarwood if the 'free people's' do not expect a furious backlash from the Yewish Inquisition.

FESTIVE EXODUS! DOZENS POUR FROM YEWTOWN!!

Refugees poured from the homes of fallen "Free Yew" these days past, as tensions between sects of the Yewtown populace rose. Friction caused by splinter groups of the Avatarian community lead to debate on the nature of the festival and soon the heated words turned to violence. Fueled, perhaps, by (bottled) festive "cheer"; the ale consumed, rash and easily provoked met in a series of scuffles throughout the town - dismissed, at first, as seasonal high spirits. The scenes took an ugly turn, however, as loyalist stones and torches were whipped through the windows of the dissenting quarter to the sounds of wavering screams.

Pitchforks and hatchets, branches and nooses followed as the Avamass air turned dark.

With Yew in turmoil since the rising of the rebel presence in our fair northern town, such segregation has become increasingly inevitable. As the violence spread to civilian hands, the partial minority was forced from the fallen Free Yew 'ghetto' and pushed south, past the Stonekeep. Many families were seen packing their belongings into crates, packhorses, bags, pockets and pouches as the exodus began. Words and stones were thrown in moderate supply, by either side, as the waves departed for Cedarwood where helpful Volunteers helped to settle the arriving refugees. Food, warmth and water were supplied by the Cedarwood Tavern as the destitute mix of Britannian and Celtic families of rebellious mind arrived in droves.

A statement released by the Free Yew Volunteers expressed an intent to defend the arriving refugees and the firm hand of the defensive rebels 'shepherded' the last of the pursuing loyalist civilians back towards the North of our town. A building taken by the FYV has been assigned as 'Office' to the Volunteers and recruitment has been opened to all arriving citizens, an act hardly likely to endear the small borough to the region's Lord Protector. Avamass may have lacked peace for the separatist branch of Yew's populace, but if Cedarwood serves as their promised land, the New Year may hold promise for the rebellion.

[While this edition of the People's Print does not detail a single, in-game event, it can be taken as an announcement that Cedarwood is, now, officially Rbl's "headquarters" so to speak. I hope you all had a merry Christmas and look forward to seeing you back in game soon!]
