| Great. Here come all the "young" characters to scarf up rubble with no risk. source Great risk vs reward here.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I don't know what the point of it is. There are plenty of corpses with gold and power/vanq weapons still on them. No need to go in young.
~~~~
Brilliant !!
Let every rubble collector with a transfer token.... know that some shard has rubble Brilliant !! That'll take care of those "young'uns"
~~~~ We had this same problem with an EM event in the past where young status characters were being used to collect dragon eggs or something else until the EM wisely asked the GMs to do something about it. I forget exactly what it was though.
~~~~ GM's can remove the "young" status

well, IF[/b]
Once young status is lost it cannot be restored, even by a Game Master. ... is true...
How are you gonna phrase your page to Take it away? on another character ... "twinked" that they may be with armor and wepons ...
Stealing "your" loot? Camping "your" spawn? breaking what rule in a game stopping manner?
hehehehehe
~~~~ Have to agree with Fayled on this one...
Although it does not seem fair... players that are looting with "young" status are not breaking any rules... just thinking outside of the box.
~~~~ Just like blocking monsters used to be thinking outside the box, I might add; oops I just did.
I'm kind of glad it is happening as it is further proof that EA needs to address the 'young' situation because it is once again, as I presume, being used to exploit the intended game dynamics.
~~~~ QFT
Seriously? Defending this as being "outside the box?"
Outside the box is stealthing around and grabbing community loot.
Outside the box is not breaking game mechanics and exploiting the system in order to get free loot.
Youngs should be restricted to Haven.
We do this by not allowing them to gate or recall.
By removing their ability to get off the island until they lose their young status, EA gives the truly YOUNG players what they intended.
A chance to learn (and not exploit) the game.
~~~~ Hmmm... is the problem then really with "young players" and that status?
Or is the problem with "older players" having the ability to use young status?
Maybe they should stop giving out free game codes enabling any player to set up a temporary account that a "young" player can be made on. By restricting the young players to Haven you are doing nothing more than punishing new and potential future players. I am not by any means happy about people being creative and working around the system, but technically, they are not breaking any rules. They are technically not hindering anybodies gameplay or blocking anybody from anything... any who...
Currently, I am sitting and waiting (with attempted patience) for the spawn. I have not seen one young player yet... so how much of an epidemic is this that we need to trap all new players in Haven?
~~~~ Oh God NOOO!!! there taking the rubble...
ROFLMFAO!!!
~~~~ I'd suggest this would be an exploit; someone using game mechanics in a way not intended, in order to get an advantage.
We won't see anything done about this over the weekend - Dev's need a break too! - but I bet Jeremey and company will have something to say about this.
Afterall - they could wipe out rubble that people have collected and start again ;')

Except this topic is about the rubble, which will ultimately be in relatively limited supply, and not looting corpses.

Sounds like there will be plenty of Rubble. Didnt realize that fun completely revolved around getting items, that is kinda sad.
~~~~ When a game turns from skill based into item based well, then I would not get surprised that players may want to seek the latest items available.
Personally, I think item based is much worse than skill based and creates more problems than whatever advantage it may give.
But that's just my opinion on this.
I find it amusing that the tactic of making the exploit widely known to basicly promote its abuse and thus force the devs to fix it faster is not working is amusing.
I mean serously to me this attitude of do what I want the second I want it is basicly bullying and who knows how catastrophic this situation is or what the ops real motives are ( I think it was two fold one to snitch off the person doing it in the most puplic forum possible and two to make this a widespread abuse so the devs will be forced to stop it).
I think this falls into the miraid of things ingame that can be looked at as a bug ( and called an exploit bye those that disagree with it and want to use the most disbaraging verbage possible) but is not considered game breaking.
Besided you guys cant have it all I mean how much hand wringing has there been about EA is dumping UO and this move to VA is the end of the world but at the same time you want them to fix every nuance of every little thing about uo that you deem wrong (we all just spout opinions it makes none of them facts).
| I am not sure about others, but personally I see the issue from a different angle.
Regardless whether this [young] players issue is fixed at all or not, and whether it does fast or slowly, is not really my main concern.
I am more interested in that situations like these do not surface for future Events.
That is, was this issue foreseable for this Event ?
If it was, then it could have been anticipated.
Why do we need to wait for problems to arise to take care of them ? Can't they be foreseen in brainstorming when planning a particular Event and taken care of before new content hits the shards ?
I really think that each time the devs are planning about new content the very first question they should ask themselves is how players will try to exploit it and go from there.
Patching up at a later time does not repair the damage done in those days when that "workaround" has been active because it was not foreseen.
at least, this is the way I think about this issue.
~~~~ Please Please Please have a NPC sell random rubble for 1gp. I will LMAO if it happens.
~~~~ BIG SMILE
| Wow, yeah. So, new rule: Young players can't get rubble once the rubble begins spawning. Tim "Draconi" Cotten - UO Designer - EA Mythic
~~~~ If this is true...... Quote: |
A friend of mine took a [young] character to Magincia to test the fire fields, and took no damage.
| Grabs a free trial code and waits for the rest of the vets to kill the end of event spawn then simply run around picking up the cool rubble by the handfull in the middle of what will be a mega fire infested city!!!!
muahhhahaaaaaa if u cant beat em, then i will join em!!
free codes for anyone!! and as many as u want too!!
