I just recently came back to UO and decided to begin anew on Catskills, I started a new mage for PvM and so far I have decided that I want my template to be:

120 Magery
120 Eval-Int
120 Meditation
120 Spellweaving

The problem I am having is I can't decide what to add in, I was thinking either 120 necro / spirit speak or 120 chiv / 100 inscribe, or maybe there is some other combo?

Also any input on gear that I can / should use while amassing gold for the powerscrolls would be greatly appreciated. Am I aiming for capped FC/FCR, LRC, LMC, SDI, MR etc? Or is there something I should foucus on, this is for 100% PvM. The only things I have so far are a lame crappy resist LRC suit and a scrappers compendium w/ pendant of the magi.

I'd say 100 Inscribe and 100(+) Resist.

I second DiP. For that template, the first thing I would add is resist, the second would be inscription for the added spell damage. I suppose you could also add poison in place of inscription and be a nox/spellweaving mage, but I'd take the inscription myself.

For any type of mage, set yourself up with a good 100% lrc suit with at least 60's in all resists and 2/6 FC/FCR. Then, MR, LMC, and MI as well as any SDI items you can get (scrappers, kasa, etc.). The scrapper's you have and the pendant are real nice starts to a solid mage suit.

I would add inscription but I would add poisoning. The reason I would add poison is for cast poison fields. They work great in trav and awesome in mel. As soon as you pop into mel cast 4 to 5 rows of poison fields and the satyers will die before they get to the crowd. As beef up on SDI and and get a focus of 5 and cast words for over 400 damage points on peerlesses on each cast.
