I don't miss the Fel days, and Siege reminds me of the pain of those days.

Re: What keeps people from playing Siege?

I'd go with "All of the above" probably, but being PKed is always at the top of my list of things I cannot handle about this game (in particular places and times).

I don't even remember how many times in the past I quit the game right after being PKed for the bazillienth time. Some of are just wooses ya know.

The only thing that stops me, is the biggest roleplay community is on Europa. Skill gain is a little thing but I dont play the game to power level. If their is good roleplay thats good enough for me.

I agree with Ghaz's and Maddux's points.

I remember visiting Siege with a brand new character. I thought to myself "I better make sure they know I'm new and not a threat, 'cause I would just like to chat and say hello," so I wore nothing but a pair of short pants and wandered out of Luna to meet the locals. I was dead before I passed the first vendor house... So I came back, retrieved my pants, and promptly died again... Third times the charm right? Wrong. Died again, without getting a single word in edge wise. I tried twice more, no one would say anything to me aside from Kal Vas Flam. The lesson: never wear short pants on Siege Perilous, you will be treated with overt hostility.

Re: What keeps people from playing Siege?

I personally love the siege ruleset. But its just the roleplay that I like and that is here on europa.
The aspect of only have 1 character is also something im not a fan of. I like variety in UO thats what makes it the game it is. I think two characters per account would be nice.
If the roleplay community moved to siege, I would pack up everything I own and follow suit.
I actually have a character on siege but have not really played him its just getting the time to be honest, gaining skills takes a few months to hit anything decent.

Re: What keeps people from playing Siege?

I had some bad times too on Siege, but the community there that I've experienced ranges from people that should die IRL to people who are nice and are willing to help. It's about a 50/50 split, but I'm working with a small sample size (maybe 10-15 people).

Re: What keeps people from playing Siege?

*RTLFC*

There are several reasons I don't play Siege, and none of them were on the poll... so I didn't answer the poll.

I only have time to play one shard. I've been playing Baja since I started nearly 10 years ago. The guild and alliance that I'm a part of has spent those years building up holdings, landmarks, and a player town on Baja. I have no intention of giving up the history on Baja.

I'm a Baja player... that's it. Just as there are many who love their shards for their own reasons and have intention of leaving it.

Sure Siege is great, but it is not anymore great then any other shard that someone started on & enjoys.

Just my 2 pesos.

Re: What keeps people from playing Siege?

I have a similiar feeling to Nok's I was born on Great Lakes, thats my home. That shard has its own history! Everyone remembers when the Temple of Mondain guild completely took over the felucca towns and uterly destroyed the bloockrock clan of orcs! Everyone remembers the Malas land rush and the very old fel pvp guilds made a run for the new lands with tram rules yet could say they wernt trammies.

Even though players come and go their spirit stays. There are actually player written books hanging around in NPC bookshelves written by myself and other role players back when greatlakes rp was huge! It has all but dwindled but the history can still be found! Im sorry to say I was born here, will live here, and eventually die here.

Switching shards is like going to a completely different world and getting a new address, driver's license, and birth certificate.

I love my UO friends and consentrate 100% on them and the shard we share.

Re: What keeps people from playing Siege?

None of the above are really the one and only reason, but I don't like constant PvP. Having the choice of going to Fel when I feel like it is fine with me.

Also I have plenty of stuff to do on Europa alone, couldn't possibly split my time between two shards.

One more thing that bugs me is the Siege players on Stratics always butting in on threads basically letting everyone know they should play Siege and Siege players are so much better than the rest of us (okay, exaggerating, but still).

I guess the bottom line is I just CBA
