Some Last Townhall of 2007 notes

Picked up a few notes about the Town Hall:

They also briefly showed some paperdolls that suspiciously looked like human bodies but with gargoyle faces on them...no wings though. Too bad the turn out was only about 50 ppl, but the I-5 was closed both ways due to a 14 truck pileup, so I'm thinking a lot of ppl didn't show because of that - took me three hours to get there when it only should have taken an hour.

The food was good too...nice spread. The devs really want KR to become the client of choice. It was suggested that if KR was the client of choice and 2d went away, they said they could do so much more cool stuff using the KR tools and additional resources, but as it goes now, they're split between two clients and resources are a back and forth effort. It's hard to please the vets while trying to bring in new ppl into the game.

I came away with the impression that the devs are really passionate about UO, but they also need to intice a newer audience to keep UO going for another ten years...thus KR's success is imperative.

I asked about old style chest gumps with the old style look and they showed a power point that got me excited. I also told them that I want the 'chest opening sound included' and he whole heartedly agreed with that.

Also, it seems that all the devs WANT to do something with the sea and sea combat, but it looks like they have a lot of other priorities right now...mainly fixing the KR lag. I was a little depressed when one of the devs mentioned that KR would never be as fast as 2d (bummer for pvpers)...hate that word 'never'. But their display that was running KR seemed pretty darn smooth and fast to me.

I mentioned that (me personally), KR ran fast when in beta, but now after the last two patches, it's lag city to me. They're aware of this and have many, many lag fixes coming in the next patch.

There were a lot of really good questions and ideas at Town Hall, but I can't remember too many of them, so hopefully someone can include them in this thread. Also, I sat behind someone that was taping the whole thing, so hopefully they will share.

Hail and Well Met Friends!

I made the trip to the Town Hall at Dave and Buster's, I managed to get a few questions in as well as as took notes of other's questions. Took some pictures as well but most of them were useless, I did manage to salvage a few..

I counted 40 people at the meet and everyone seemed to have a good time. Nick Corea (aka Dragon Head) and Derek Brinkmen (aka Supreem) were there to give a demonstration of things to come in KR and take notes of player concerns. Here's a pic of the whole group.

I showed up a bit late but the purpose of their visit was obviously to focus on KR. They spent some time going over the interface and it's benefits. I'm not sure what the hand count of current KR users was, I'm listening the the recording right now and that occurred just before I arrived. I would love to know what that count was.

I did get there in time to see the custom UI they demo'd, a feature already being played with by some players. Check out the "Custom UI Sticky" here. There was a good bit of discussion spent on the custom UI. For those who couldn't make out the part about default settings, for those of you who use a custom UI, you can use the "Custom UI" button on the left of the logon screen to load the default UI if you ever have problems after an update or after making changes to your custom UI. Then we did get to see some of the upcoming features.

For those of you who really don't like the new artwork, there is soon to come an option to change back to the old 2d art. All the housing and building tiles, trees, all the in game items, items in your backpack, all look just like they always have in 2d. They are giving you the option to load the 2d art instead of the KR art. Plus there is an added bonus, you can zoom in and out. Sorry no pic of this, one of many that didn't come out at all.
Options for Gumps were discussed and even displayed. of course they showed us the scaleable UI feature, then they discussed plans to give us flexible container gumps, similar to what we had in 3d, and they showed us some art of old style 2d containers which I'm sure will make many people happy. Nick also made it a point to mention that if using the "Stylized Containers" you would not be able to resize the container. Here are the only 2 that came out at all, the pouch and chest were even more blurry than these. Maybe Jeremy or someone can post the real pics for everyone to see. These are really poor pictures of a ship's hold and a create. I will say everything I saw looked like the old 2d containers.

Re: Some Last Townhall of 2007 notes

After listening to it. I kinda felt "Chris" was off his game. He was running on 3 hours sleep. Too tell the truth I think it was too early for him to be the main speaker, he didn't seem to have a grasp on some basic issue's with UO and KR. I know his comment that nothing was on the boards for Siege, sent a ripple thru some of that shards folks. I don't think he intended to say Siege would never get anymore love, just that all of thier resources were about getting KR right. I think they have a lot riding on KR being accepted, I think the basic future of UO rides on this client taking off. Going to be interesting to see how it pans out.

I agree. Being at the town hall, the Siege questions didn't come across as never... just not right now. But there were also other shard issues that were "not right now" either.

The gist of the meeting seemed to me anyway that KR is the top priority and other issues will come in their own time as KR comes up to speed.

"I think Kelmo has finally seen the truth and it's difficult to accept.

He went to the Austin Town Meeting, where there were lots of Siege players this time around. After meeting Draconi, Jeremy and others, he came home convinced Siege was important to them. That Siege would be getting some much needed attention in the very near future.

After hearing Draconi's words during the Town Hall meeting yesterday, it became abundantly clear that, at least when we are face to face, the devs tell us what we want to hear. "
