| An Interview with Shalimar [NEW] of SP The world of Siege Perilous is full of interesting people... Today while in the seaside city of Skara Brae I had the great pleasure to meet with Shalimar of [NEW]. How long have you played Ultima Online?
About ten years? I started playing the single player Ultima games long before so I've been playing a loooong time. So what is it that keeps you playing UO?
I just enjoy it now and then still to relax from long days at work. How long have you played on Siege Perilous?
Started on Siege the day it opened. Siege was wiped a couple of weeks after opening, as some had placed castles and there was 'duping' going on. It didn't matter much to me at the time as I didn't have much to lose. What interested you into joining Siege?
When I found out a new 'original' shard was going to be opening for people who had an idea of how to play the game, and the other shards were going to add Trammel, I decided I wanted to move on over to the 'new' shard. Do you consider Siege your home shard?
Indeed I do. How many accounts do you have active?
I have 6 accounts, I added one by one over the years whenever I wanted to do/make something I couldn't already do/make. What do you think of factions on Siege?
I don't have an opinion on factions as it's something I've never had a mind to participate in. I disliked factions when they first appeared, though, I think I would rather have [HERO] [EVIL] back and perhaps Order/Chaos. What type of character do you like to play best?
One who tries to do the right thing I suppose. Skillwise, I enjoyed playing a swords woman years ago, with a hally. Now, I like to play on my archer best, but if we ever went back to basics I'd go with swords again. What do you think of Siege Perilous' gain system RoT(rate over time)?
It's far too slow and not enough points per day. I see new folks struggle everyday just to grind out the few points they are allowed trying to compete with others. RoT needs to have 3xs the amount of gains now and gains need to be 1 minute apart.
RoT doesn't make Siege hard but it certainly makes it tedious. What do you think of the new templates such as, Ninja and Samurai?
I think they are fine for those who like variation. The game can't standstill as much as I would have liked it to, I do think it should 'evolve' a little less and give some of the basics back to us. Template variations and character styles are ok to keep it interesting. Have you tried Kingdom Reborn yet and what do you think about it?
No I haven't. I think the paper dolls I've seen so far look as though they are in dire need of getting to a loo...and fast. Graphics for some of the monsters look good but things appear to be out of proportion. What can you tell me about the NEW guild on Siege Perilous?
The guild NEW is only needed now because new people to the shard don't run into people they way they did when the shard was busy. Previously (before NEW) they would meet strangers everywhere who would help out with anything they needed to get started.
I have been gm of NEW for 3+ years now, and although we have around 50 new members each month, unfortunately a lot of them don't stay even when they move on to their 'real' guild, a lot still quit... What one thing would you fix in UO if you could?
I would like to see RoT with an overhaul in the hope it would bring more players.
