Hello everyone, i am a "young" player in UO terms. (Actualy quite old, turning 36 lol). Anyway, i just started playing the game and it seems great, graphics re nothing when you have contents and freedom to do what you want whenever you want.

I will surely be spending ALOT of time in game and, dont wanna rush things.

Enought with the chat, here is my question.

What is a good template for a mage PvE, i hate PvP (WoW killed PvP for me lol) I will surely mostly be on my own and want to have a character that can take care of itself.

If a Mage is not the right choice for starting out, let me know of another good template i could use. If i dont like it, i can always discard it later on when i get the twists !!

Mages are very versatile but they can be expensive to train initially as your spells are powered by reagents. If your playing on Europa contact me via icq 164413512, or via pm on this forum and i will give you a free 100% Lower reagent suit of meddable armour to get you started.

As to your template try...
Magery
Eval Int ( increases the damage your spells do)
Meditation ( recover mana faster )
Focus ( recover mana and stamina...just keep this whilst training your skills up)
Wrestling ( will enable you to cast whilst being attacked as the skill increases in lvl)

These skills will get you started so spend the rest of your 700skill pts as you wish to use to personalise your character

Decardo's answer is right on. Some players like starting with a melee warrior as it is easier to train and earn money on. Let us know which shard you play on. We will try to help you out the best we can.

Theres no rush, concentrate on the main ones and see what trend takes you.

Necromancy and SpiritSpeak are good skills to have on a Mage if you dont mind being 'Evil' and having negative Karma

Not knowing being evil and having bad karma impact on the game, i prefer stay away from those

A very versatile mage for all around play would be magery/eval/meditaion/resist/wrestling and inscription. I ran a wrestle mage like this for quite a while and love the template. I still use him, but he now also has spellweaving and poison on soulstones so I can turn him into a couple different types of mages depending on what my guild or I are doing. As was mentioned, a necro mage is also an excellent template. I run mine mainly doing spawns. Wraith form, summon wisp and wither equals BAD news for spawn stuff lol.

I'm on Cats, if you need any help let me know. I can also help you train your char mostly without ever getting hit.
I find that watching a player with young status beat up a peaced dragon..........By the way, you won't need wrestling in PvE

If you are just making a PvM, I would add inscription for the extra SDI and spellweaving. Spellweaving is awesome in peerlesses with a level 5 focus. I usualy do around 400 damage with word of death on my mage. My mage is magery, eval intel, med, spellweaving, inscripting, and posion. He does very well in peerlesses.
